Studying health economics "dual" means choosing a combination of vocational training and university studies, which is becoming increasingly important and is positioning itself as a highly sustainable course of study.

The degree programs are offered in cooperation with over 50 partners (so-called practice network). The aim is to provide our graduates with interdisciplinary training to enable them to take on diverse and challenging specialist and management roles in healthcare companies, e.g. hospitals, health insurance companies and pharmaceutical companies.

The degree programs

The Ludwigshafen University of Business and Society and around 40 different cooperation partners from all areas of the healthcare sector offer a combination of university studies and practice-oriented vocational training: a Bachelor of Science, B.Sc. degree and training as a social insurance clerk or an internship program or traineeship in healthcare companies.

The general aim of the program is to create a qualifying basis in business administration, economics, law and medical management on a scientific basis, which also includes methodological and social skills.

GiP graduates should be qualified for their future professional activities in healthcare companies through the independent application of scientific knowledge and methods as well as sound practical experience.

Course content & Study program

Theory

Broad-based basic knowledge in the 1st/2nd semester with in-depth knowledge in the 3rd/4th semester, annual practical phases from 15.07.-30.09. between the 2nd/3rd semester and 4th/5th semester. During these periods, students get to know various fields of activity in their cooperating company. In the 5th semester, students can choose between the subjects of health promotion and prevention, corporate management in the healthcare sector or innovation management. Quality and process management, health economic evaluation and IT in healthcare are also offered. The practical semester from 01.02./01.03.-30.09. is completed in the 6th semester; here the theoretical knowledge is to be implemented and put into practice. In the 7th semester, international aspects of the healthcare system are dealt with and other sectors of the life sciences industry (pharmaceutical companies, medical technology, etc.) are considered. The 12-week Bachelor's thesis is written at the end of the semester.

Practice

Three different models (study variants) are offered as part of the dual study system - study during the regular lecture period and training or internship or traineeship during the lecture-free period:

Training model: training as a social insurance assistant plus studies.

Rotation model: Internships in various companies (rotation) in the healthcare sector plus studies.

Secondment model: traineeship in a healthcare company plus studies.

Occupational fields & Career opportunities

In particular, by combining medical management, business administration, economics and law, students acquire the specialist and methodological skills required to meet the qualification requirements in the healthcare sector. As health economists, the dual study program enables students to take up specialist and management positions in middle and senior management, for example at
