Rhineland-Palatinate University of Applied Sciences (HAW) Statewide Research Day on October 22, 2026
On October 22, 2026, our university will host the second statewide Research Day for Rhineland-Palatinate’s universities of applied sciences. Under the slogan“The Future Is Scienceand Innovationin Rhineland-Palatinate,” we once again aim to promote academic exchange and networking.
The goal of this joint event is to bring together university members in Rhineland-Palatinate who are interested in or actively engaged in research, in order to highlight the diversity and excellence of research activities. This year—in keeping with the motto “Learning – Research – Impact”—the focus is on early-career researchers. The program covers the entire spectrum of applied research: from initial student projects and doctoral research to successful transfer and career paths.
The event will feature, among other things, parallel sessions with academic presentations by doctoral candidates alongside their supervising HAW professors on various topics, as well as a pitch session for student research projects. In addition, a panel discussion will highlight different career paths following a HAW doctoral degree.

Program Overview

Starting at 9:00 a.m. Check-in
From 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., all participants can register at the registration desk. All presenters will have the opportunity to set up their posters and exhibits.
10:00 a.m. Welcome
10:15 a.m. A Kaleidoscope of Research and Technology Transfer Activities
The (vice) presidents for research will present the research and knowledge transfer activities of the individual universities through brief, informative on-stage presentations.
11:00 a.m. Pitch of student research projects
Students will present their applied research projects in one minute as an introduction to the poster exhibition.
11:45 a.m. Lunch break + poster exhibition
From 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., all participants will have the opportunity to enjoy lunch and view the exhibitors’ posters and information booths. The on-site signs provide an overview of the exhibition areas.

12:45 p.m. Parallel Sessions: Doctoral Thesis Presentations, Part 1
In Part 1, doctoral candidates will present their work together with their advisors from the three fields of life sciences, computer science, and economics .

2:00 p.m. Coffee break
Time to recharge with a cup of coffee and some snacks and get some fresh air.
2:30 p.m. Parallel Sessions: Doctoral Thesis Presentations, Part 2
In Part 2, doctoral candidates will present their work together with their advisors from the three subject areas: Sustainable Technology, Health and Social Sciences, and Economics.

3:45 p.m. Coffee break
Time to recharge with a cup of coffee and some snacks and get some fresh air.
4:00 p.m. Panel Discussion: Career Paths After Earning a Ph.D. from HAW
Former HAW doctoral students talk about their career paths and discuss the opportunities offered by a HAW doctoral degree.
4:45 p.m. Farewell + Closing Remarks
Prof. Dr. Gunther Piller, President of the University of Applied Sciences for Economics and Society, will bring the Research Day to a close with a brief closing address. All participants will have the opportunity to continue networking and wrap up the HAW Research Day in a relaxed atmosphere.
