The Ludwigshafen University of Business and Society (HWG LU) was represented at the 22nd BASF Firmencup 2026 at the Hockenheimring yesterday with a lot of energy and, above all, a lot of team spirit: Almost 90 runners and skaters from the student body, education and administration took to the starting line together - more than ever before for HWG LU.
The BASF Company Cup set a new record this year with around 17,000 participants from 758 companies. BASF alone provided the largest team with more than 3,000 starters. Right in the middle of it all: HWG LU, which impressively demonstrated that university connects beyond lecture halls, seminars and workplaces.
On the traditional 5.2 kilometer race track of the Hockenheimring, the focus was not on times and rankings - but on the shared experience. Nevertheless, there were also top sporting performances: The fastest runner from the HWG LU team completed the course in a strong 17:59 minutes.
The area around the Hockenheimring was already filled with participants, family members and spectators in the afternoon. After the Kids' Running Cup and the start of the inline skaters, the Running Cup in the evening was the highlight of the day. In several starting waves, a seemingly endless stream of colorful team shirts, running shoes and a good atmosphere set off - the Hockenheimring once again showed its completely different side.
The sports day was opened by Dr. Katja Scharpwinkel, member of the Board of Executive Directors of BASF SE. She emphasized the special idea behind the company cup: to bring people from a wide variety of organizations together and to make it possible to experience community through movement.
This is exactly what made HWG LU's appearance so special: Students, education staff and employees together on one course - with mutual motivation and a strong sense of togetherness.
