Prof. Dr. Manoj Gupte was appointed deputy director of the East Asian Institute, effective September 1, 2026. He succeeds Christine Liew, who will assume the role of director of the university’s International Office.
Since 2024, Prof. Gupte has been a professor of business administration specializing in international management in the Department of Management, Controlling, and Healthcare, as well as the director of the Business Administration – International Management (B.Sc.) degree program. He has more than 20 years of professional experience, during which he has, among other things, led organizations in India and Southeast Asia. “Manoj Gupte’s expertise will play a special role in broadening the OAI’s geographic perspective beyond its current focus countries of China, Japan, and Korea,” commented Prof. Dr. Frank Rövekamp, the institute’s director. “We wish Prof. Gupte every success in his upcoming responsibilities and look forward to working with him!” added University President Prof. Dr. Gunther Piller on behalf of the Executive Board.
At the same time, Frank Rövekamp once again expressed his special thanks to Ms. Liew, who served as deputy director of the OAI for many years with great dedication and a high level of professional expertise. Even in her new role as director of the International Office, she will remain closely connected to the institute in many ways, according to Rövekamp. Gunther Piller also thanked Christine Liew for “her long-standing, successful contribution to the institute’s development” and wished her “much success and all the best in her new, responsible position.”
