Bachelor's degree in Health Economics can be studied dual and non-dual in future

The Ludwigshafen University of Business and Society HWG LU is expanding its Bachelor's degree program in Health Economics (B.Sc.): From the winter semester 2026/2027, the Health Economics course can no longer be completed exclusively on a dual basis, but for the first time also in a non-dual version. The application portals are now open. Applications can be submitted until August 15, with lectures starting in mid-September.

Until now, the Bachelor's degree course in Health Economics was designed exclusively as a dual study program and combined academic training with practical work in companies and healthcare facilities. This successful model will remain in place.

A non-dual study option has now been added, which opens up additional opportunities for individual profile development. In particular, the non-dual study option offers more flexibility in setting personal priorities. Students benefit from an extended range of English-language courses and have the opportunity to integrate a semester abroad into their studies. In this way, the degree programs also take into account the increasing internationalization of the healthcare sector.

Regardless of the chosen form of study - dual or non-dual - the Bachelor of Health Economics provides sound knowledge at the interface of business and health in seven semesters and concludes with a Bachelor of Science. Graduates qualify for a wide range of fields of work - for example with health insurance companies, clinics, consulting firms, in the pharmaceutical and medical technology industry or other players in the healthcare market.

"By opening up the degree programs to a non-dual variant, we are creating even more options for prospective students. At the same time, we are strengthening international skills and individual development opportunities," says the course director.

Further qualification through the Master's in Health Care Management (HCM)

There are also a wide range of opportunities for further training afterwards: The Master's degree course in Health Care Management (HCM) at HWG LU can also be studied on a dual or non-dual basis. In this way, the university offers continuous qualification opportunities in the future-oriented field of healthcare management from Bachelor's to Master's degree - adapted to different life and career plans. The Master's degree course in Health Care Management (HCM) deepens the knowledge acquired in the Bachelor's degree in the areas of health economics, management and healthcare. The focus is on current challenges in the healthcare sector such as digitalization, care management, strategic management, healthcare markets and the management and organization of healthcare facilities. In addition, students acquire analytical and scientific skills that qualify them for specialist and management roles in the healthcare sector. The dual and non-dual study options allow students to flexibly adapt the Master's degree to their professional and personal goals.

Broad network of cooperation partners in the healthcare industry

Students on both the Bachelor's and Master's degree courses benefit from the broad network of cooperation partners in the healthcare sector. These include hospitals, health insurance companies, consulting firms, pharmaceutical and medical technology companies and other institutions in the healthcare industry. The close cooperation enables practical courses, guest lectures from the industry, projects with practice partners and valuable contacts for internships, dual study phases and later career entry.
