Social Innovation Lab: "Lost & Found" - About losing, searching and finding

From June 3 - August 29, 2026, the artistic "Lost & Found" lost and found office of the Montag Foundation "Art and Society " will open directly opposite the Social Innovation Lab at Bismarckstraße 55

In contrast to a conventional lost and found office, the "Lost & Found" contact point set up in a converted container is motivated less by the idea of a transaction of loss-search-find-return of a valuable item than by the idea of the possible transformation of a loss into something new. A lost engagement ring, the disappearance of the nice stores and cafés in the pedestrian zone, the home left behind, the creeping loss of biodiversity or even the deep grief for a loved one - the subject of experienced loss can be personal, local, material, systemic or imaginary. Supported by local artists, the "Lost & Found" office offers the opportunity to artistically process subjectively experienced losses and transform them into something new.

The program provides for a weekly rotation of artists who are present in the "Lost & Found" office and support interested individuals or groups with their specific artistic strategies and working methods to become creatively active themselves. Participants in the program include Jaah Collective, Alice Musiol, Karin Maria Zimmer, post beul buffett, Katharina Jej, Evi Blink, Leo Leowald and Katharina Jahnke, illig & illig, Klaus Kleine and Ana Laibach. Over the course of the summer, a collection of material objects or immaterial productions on the - socially rather taboo - experiences of loss and grief will be created. These could be drawings, photos, videos, sculptures, sounds, musical compositions, performative productions, etc., which will be on display as a growing exhibition in the premises of the Social Innovation Lab of the HWG LU for the entire duration of the project.

With the "Freitagsfunden", a series of artistic impulse lectures on the topic, the artists involved offer insights into their personal explorations and working methods(every 2nd and 4th Friday of the month at 6 p.m. in the Social Innovation Lab).

The project is aimed at city residents and interested parties, groups and individuals. Various seminar groups from the HWG LU's Aesthetic Practice/BASocial Work degree program are involved in the "Lost & Found" project.

All offers are free of charge and open to everyone. Registration is not required.
