One degree course - four options!
Dual training
- Training: Parallel to your studies, you will complete your training as a social insurance assistant
- Strong partners: We work together with various health insurance companies, in particular with SBK and Salus BKK.
- Double degree: After your studies, you will not only have a Bachelor's degree but also a successfully completed apprenticeship.
- Application: You apply directly to the cooperation partner for the apprenticeship, the application for the degree course is made via the application portal.
Dual Classic
- Temporary employment: During your studies, you will be employed by your cooperation partner and receive the remuneration agreed in the contract.
- Practical phases: You complete the 3 practical phases with your cooperation partner and get to know different areas there.
- Clear regulation of study and work: You workat least 1 working day/week during the semester; during the lecture-free period you work full-time.
- Application: Use our student advisory service in advance so that you can make a targeted application to our cooperation partners. You can apply for the course via the university's application portal.
Dual Flex
- Internships: During your 3 practical phases, you will complete various internships with our cooperation partners.
- Maximum flexibility: You only gain professional experience during the 3 practical phases, you are completely free to choose your cooperation partners.
- Your advantages: You have the opportunity to get to know different companies in the healthcare sector and gain insights into several sectors. Choose the combination that best suits your interests and career goals!
- Application: Use our student advisory service in advance so that you can apply specifically to our cooperation partners. You can apply for the course via the university's application portal.
Non-dual
- Individual profile development: In the 4th semester, you choose between one of our elective modules at the university (Entrepreneurship, Human Resources Management, Marketing, Corporate Finance, Promoting Creativity - Creating Social Innovation...) and can expand your personal knowledge.
- International orientation: Through in-depth English modules in semesters 2, 3 and 7, you will strengthen your language skills and be well prepared for studying abroad.
Semester abroad or internship at home or abroad: You will spend the 6th semester either at a university abroad or in an internship at home or abroad.

- Most courses take place on our modern campus in Ludwigshafen am Rhein.
What content is taught in the degree programs?
During your studies, you will acquire a broad knowledge base in the following areas
- medical basics
- Business administration and management
- Information technology and digitalization
- Healthcare system and healthcare policy
- Health economic evaluation
- Law in the healthcare sector
How are the practical phases organized in the dual variant?
The practical phases are structured as follows:
- Practical phase 1: 10 weeks in the first year of study (after the 2nd semester)
- Practical phase 2: 10 weeks in the second year of study (after the 4th semester)
- Practical semester: 24 weeks in the sixth semester
Who are the cooperation partners in the dual study option?
- The practical phases are carried out with cooperation partners from the healthcare sector, for example hospitals, health insurance companies, consulting firms or care facilities. You can find an overview of our cooperation partners here.
Why Ludwigshafen as a study location?
- The city of Ludwigshafen is located in the middle of the metropolitan area Rhine-Neckar with around 160,000 companies, many of which are important players in the healthcare sector: Roche, SAP, Abbvie, BG Klinik Ludwigshafen, Diakonissen Speyer and numerous other medium-sized companies, hidden champions and innovative start-ups.
- Many of them are cooperation partners of the Bachelor's degree course in Health Economics at our university.
- Numerous research and scientific institutions: 23 universities and colleges and more than 30 renowned research institutions (European Molecular Biology Laboratory, four Max Planck Institutes, German Cancer Research Center, Center for European Economic Research).

What are my career prospects after graduation?
After graduating, you will have a wide range of opportunities to start your career and excellent prospects for further career steps. You will also have built up your own network and may have already found an interesting national or international employer.
- At hospitals/health insurance companies in the areas of quality and process management, controlling or human resources.
- In the "budget/price negotiation" team at health insurance companies or hospitals. This involves negotiating budgets/prices based on the services provided by a hospital (or: care facility, rehabilitation facility) and concluding corresponding agreements.
- In the management of healthcare networks or as an assistant to the management.
- In company health management (BGM) at companies in all sectors.
- As an eHealth Consultant, you will work on the development, introduction and sale of digital health products. These include, for example, health apps or digitally supported care processes. Jobs can be found at health insurance companies, pharmaceutical/medical technology companies, consulting firms, hospitals or start-ups in the field of digital health.
- In the field of data analysis and healthcare analytics.

Graduates of the Health Economics degree programs work in the following areas, among others:
- Hospitals and health insurance companies: Activities in quality and process management, controlling or human resources.
- Budget and price negotiations in the healthcare sector: Working in teams that negotiate budgets and prices between hospitals, care facilities, rehabilitation facilities and health insurance companies and prepare and conclude corresponding agreements.
- Management of healthcare networks: Tasks in operational management or as an assistant to the management.
- Occupational health management (OHM): Planning, implementation and further development of health promotion measures in companies in various sectors.
- eHealth and digital health: work as an eHealth consultant, for example in the development, introduction or marketing of digital health solutions such as health apps or digitally supported care processes. Employers include health insurance companies, pharmaceutical and medical technology companies, consulting firms, hospitals and start-ups in the field of digital health.
- Data analysis and healthcare analytics: Analysis of care data to evaluate quality, efficiency and cost-effectiveness in the healthcare sector.
