Admission restriction/Numerus Clausus
What does restricted admission mean?
At our university, there are both admission-free and admission-restricted degree programs. You will definitely get a place on the open-admission programs if you meet the admission requirements and upload all the documents to be submitted to the application portal. Only a limited number of places are available per semester for degree programs with admission restrictions. The selection of applications is based on criteria such as the average grade of the qualification for university entrance (e.g. Abitur or Fachhochschulreife) and possible waiting semesters.
How are admission restrictions and the numerus clausus related?
Based on the number of applications and the qualifications of the applicants, the so-called Numerus Clausus (NC) is determined for degree programs with admission restrictions at the end of the application phase. This value corresponds to the final grade of the qualification for university entrance of the last person admitted to the respective application procedure. The NC is therefore not determined in advance and can change from semester to semester.

Important for you: The published NC values are for guidance only. They are not a binding forecast for future application procedures. Therefore, do not be discouraged by an NC - it is definitely worth applying. Application numbers and admission limits often develop differently than expected.
