Ersti-Welcome at the Ludwigshafen University of Business and Society

On Monday, Sept. 16, 2019, 718 bachelor and according to preliminary figures, 718 Bachelor's and 170 Master's students started their studies at HWG LU. Organizational innovations brought the "city" to the studies at the traditional first semester welcome and equalized the previously tightly organized Ersti-Tag.

One week before the official start of lectures, the Ludwigshafen University of Business and Society welcomed the new freshmen: on Monday, September 16, 2019, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., the first-year students of the winter semester 2019/2020 were welcomed on the central campus in Ernst-Boehe-Straße 4. Here the "Erstis" had the opportunity to inform themselves about their future university, the central campus, the professors, the service facilities and last but not least to get to know their first fellow students. A new feature this year was that the city's cultural institutions also presented themselves at the freshers' welcome and that the day as a whole was significantly streamlined by organizational changes.

The event opened at 9:30 a.m. in the university's auditorium with a welcome to the new students by university president Prof. Dr. Peter Mudra. In his speech, Mudra appealed to the freshmen to use the coming semesters not only to acquire knowledge, but also to develop their social and methodological skills and to make friends: "With all your dedication to your studies and work, leave room for other, important things," said the president. Mayor Prof. Dr. Cornelia Reifenberg then extended "a warm welcome to the new phase of life at the Ludwigshafen University of Business and Society" on behalf of the city and spoke of a "great curiosity and expectation", a "time of freedom and self-discovery in which there is still room for maneuver", which the students should make use of.

At 10:00 a.m., the General Student Committee (AStA), the Student Parliament and master's student Luisa Kläger introduced the student representatives and the university. In the foyer in front of the auditorium, starting at 10:30 a.m., representatives of the individual departments, Student Services, the International Office, the AStA and the Student Parliament (Stupa), the Vorderpfalz Student Union, and the Bafög Office answered questions from newcomers and gave tips on starting their studies. For the first time, the city's institutions - LUKOM, dasHaus, the Hack Museum and the Civic Foundation - also introduced themselves to the first-year students. The Degree was rounded off with guided tours of the campus starting at 1:00 pm. Besides a multicolored master program waited for the new arrivals - among other things an action conditions of the TK with free Smoothies and a human kicker, which was handed over on this day also officially by Institut for city marketing Lorenz GmbH to the university.

Welcome service on 17.09.2019 at 10.00 am Aula, Maxstraße 29
The otherwise traditional welcome service at the beginning of the event will now take place on Tuesday, 17.09.2019, at 10.00 am in the auditorium of the Department of Social and Health Services at Maxstraße 29.

Ersti-Get2gether and Ersti-Party of the AStA on 17.09.2019 from 19.30h in L3,9 or on 25.09.2019 from 22.00h in the Chaplin Club
Despite all the innovations, there are also proven constants this year: As every semester, the AStA invites all freshmen to the Ersti-Get2gether on Tuesday, 17.09.2019 from 19.30h in the L3 Lounge (L3, 9) in Mannheim, as well as to the legendary Ersti-Party on Wednesday, 25.09.2019 from 22.00h in the Chaplin Club (N7, 10 in Mannheim); admission 4 euros.

And of course there will be the well-filled "Ersti-Bags" again as a small welcome to the freshmen.
