Student Parliament (StuPa)
The Rhineland-Palatinate Higher Education Act provides for two bodies for student self-administration: The General Student Committee (AStA) and the Student Parliament (StuPa).
Together, we take on the following tasks, among others:
- to represent the interests of the student body in the university and in society
- to advise the students in the execution of their studies
- to participate in the fulfillment of the university's tasks, in particular through statements on university or science policy issues
- to represent the cultural, professional, economic and social interests of the students
- to promote the integration of foreign students and to foster international relations.
Thus, the collegial and constructive cooperation between the two bodies is crucial for the efficiency of student self-administration. In concrete terms, this means on the part of the StuPa, among other things.
- Adoption of the budget of the AStA and thus control of the financial resources in the amount of more than 300,000€ per year
- Election of the AStA board members and department heads
- Receipt of the accountability reports and thereby control of the activities
- Representation of interests internally (vis-à-vis the university management) and externally (vis-à-vis e.g. political decision-makers of the state or the city).
