State Secretary Dr. Denis Alt: 762,000 euros for the development of the Skills and Simulation Center at the University of Applied Sciences Ludwigshafen

Press release of the MWG RLP from 16.08.2022

The state is funding the establishment of a skills and simulation center at the Ludwigshafen University of Applied Sciences with 762,000 euros. The center will be used for both the bachelor's degree program "Midwifery Science" and the new bachelor's degree program "Nursing", which is scheduled to start in the upcoming winter semester 2022/2023. "We are thus once again investing in high-quality degree programs in midwifery and nursing. By equipping them with state-of-the-art technology, we are creating very good framework conditions for the two courses of study and at the same time making an important contribution to high-quality healthcare in Rhineland-Palatinate. I hope that many young people will continue to choose Ludwigshafen as a place to study and that the upcoming nursing degree program will enjoy just as high a demand as midwifery already does," said the State Secretary in the Ministry of Science and Health, Dr. Denis Alt.

"The establishment of the Skills and Simulation Center at our central campus is another milestone in the establishment of the Ludwigshafen University of Applied Sciences as the health focus of the state and makes a decisive contribution to quality assurance in the academization of the health professions. Here, our students can train the practical aspects of midwifery and nursing in a protected space and relate them to the knowledge they have learned in theory - this not only gives them confidence, but also makes a decisive contribution to patient safety and, in a broader sense, to the professionalization of the healthcare professions," said a delighted University President Prof. Dr. Gunther Piller.

Learning in the Skills and Simulation Center means simulating complex situations from professional midwifery and nursing practice in a realistic way. Using simulation equipment and demonstration models, students practice practical skills and link their theoretical and practical knowledge. They can practice in a protected learning environment before coming into contact with patients in hospitals during the professional practice portion of their studies.

"There is no greater miracle than the birth of a new human being. Especially the way there and the time afterwards often requires intensive support from professional midwives, who encourage, give strength and support where it is necessary. We in the state want to do everything in our power to offer young people the opportunity to take up the profession of midwife and to create the conditions at universities for a sound academic education. In recent years, Rhineland-Palatinate has already placed clear budgetary emphasis on the expansion of health care courses of study. Not only for the academization in midwifery, but also in nursing, new personnel positions as well as material resources have been made available to the corresponding universities," says Denis Alt. With an offer in Mainz, Ludwigshafen and Trier, prospective students in Rhineland-Palatinate have access to good offers from the bachelor's to the master's to the doctorate.
