Gender and social work

Project Management:Prof. Dr. Ariane Brenssell
Project duration:SoSe 2013 to WiSe 2012/14
Project description:

Two years ago, a group of female students asked me if I could offer a seminar on gender topics at the Social Work program. They wanted to know more about gender and diversity related topics and fields of work in social work. Since we have a two-semester elective format at the program, I wrote a seminar "Gender and Social Work. Does Gender Matter?" The seminar was open in terms of content, and the students were to be able to develop topics in the field of gender and diversity according to their interests. Therefore, the goal of the seminar and the form of the examination were also open. During the first semester, it became clear that the students wanted to share their work with other students. Thus, the decision was made to produce a brochure "Gender and Social Work. Texts to start the discussion by social work students". The publication was intended to make the importance of gender as a cross-cutting issue accessible to other interested students and faculty and to generate interest in the gender discussion in social work. The guiding question was, "What is the benefit of addressing gender in the context of social work?"

Target groups:Social work majors, students at the Ludwigshafen University of Applied Sciences.
