IT services and support in everyday student life

A smooth course of study requires reliable IT structures and quick help with technical questions. On this page you will find central services offered by the Ludwigshafen University of Business and Society - with a special focus on IT support for students.

Whether WLAN access, campus IT, e-mail, learning platforms or software access: our IT support will help you competently. In addition, you will also find other points of contact here to help you with organizational and study-related issues.

Your university account

With your account you have access to the pages / services that are relevant to you

  • PC pools
  • WLAN at the University
  • VPN
  • Mail
  • OpenOLAT (via Shibboleth)
  • University portal

Your username / login name is a combination of LU + any two letters + any three digits (for example LUAA000). You can see this in the university portal. The initial password is: Your date of birth with the first letter of your first name and the first letter of your last name, both capitalized (dd.mm.yyyyVN, e.g. 12.05.1981MM).

Please note that the account is linked to your study time. This will be deactivated upon completion of the course or early de-registration. Therefore, you should save your documents and data externally before expiry.

Here is a step-by-step explanation of how to activate your account via "Aurora".

Instructions to reset the password.

Please note that the account is linked to your study time. This will be deactivated upon completion of the course or early de-registration. Therefore, you should save your documents and data externally before expiry.

There are currently two university portals:

1.Student and application portal

  • Updating contact details: semester address, telephone number and e-mail address
  • Check target/actual status of semester fee (fee account)
  • Enrolment or study certificates (e.g. for BAföG)
  • Exam registration

2. Course Portal

  • Class Schedules
  • Room Assignments

OpenOLAT is the central learning management system (LMS) of HWG Ludwigshafen and is provided state-wide via the Virtual Campus Rhineland-Palatinate (VCRP).

Access:
Students log in via the Shibboleth login with their university ID (campus account). This account also grants access to WLAN, VPN, webmail and PC pools.

Help and support:

  • Questions about the university ID: IT Service (ITS)
  • Questions about OpenOLAT: E-learning team (in person in room C2.122 or by e-mail)

Tip for beginners:
As an introduction, the self-study course "OpenOLAT Onboarding" is recommended (access only possible with an OLAT account).

An introduction to the basic functions of OpenOLAT. You can find the link to register here.

E-mail account

An e-mail account is automatically created for each student when they enrol at the Ludwigshafen University of Business and Society. This account can be used for internal communication or for receiving external emails. The login details for the new email system are identical to those for the PC pools (...W-Lan, VPN, OLAT via Shibboleth) at the university.

Your e-mail address is usually as follows:

Vorname.Nachname@studmail.hwg-lu.de

The e-mail address may differ in rare cases, e.g. if your name is too long or the name has already been assigned. You can also look up your address yourself in the webmail client.

You have various options for retrieving your university emails.

1. retrieval via the webmail client (browser)

The Outlook-web-app (OWA) offers the possibility to manage emails in the browser.

Webmail client

Help for the Outlook web app (OWA):

After logging in via the IDP, the initial setup follows.
Here you will first see a privacy policy, then the time zone must be selected (+1 Berlin, Amsterdam).

After the initial setup, you can make full use of the OWA.

2. retrieval via a mail program

To access the university mailbox in your personal mail client, click on "Add account" in your mail client (e.g. Outlook, Thunderbird, GMX, Yahoo, G-Mail etc.). There, select the account connection "Exchange (possibly ActiveSync)".
Then enter your email address and your HS password. It may take a few minutes to connect your mailbox.

If the Exchange autodiscover (Exchange active sync) does not work, you can manually connect the mailbox using the data below.

If ActiveSync does not work, use the "manual setup" with the following data:
E-mail address:
E-mail server: mail.zdv.net
Domain: Campus
User name: "HS-Anmeldename"
(In rare cases also: Domain\User name)
Password:

Incoming mails
Protocol:IMAP
Server address:mail.zdv.net
Port:993
Encryption:SSL
Outgoing mails
Protocol:SMTP
Server address:mail.zdv.net
Port:587
Encryption:STARTTLS

HWG-Lu App (in the App Store/Google Play Store)

With the HWG-LU app, you have the most important services relating to your studies at your fingertips at all times. You can use your smartphone to use your digital student ID, view your timetable, check your grades and access university emails, among other things. Information about the library, events and other campus services is also available in one place.

The accompanying instructions show you step by step how to install the app, log in and make the most of all the functions for your everyday study life.

Here is a short introduction

STW-VP (in the App Store/Google Play Store)

With the Studierendenwerk Vorderpfalz payment app, you can pay quickly and easily with your smartphone in the canteen and cafeterias in Ludwigshafen. After downloading the app, you can conveniently top up your credit in the app and pay directly at the till using a QR code - no cash or card required. Your student status is stored digitally so that you automatically benefit from discounted prices. You can also keep track of your current balance and your payments at all times.

You can find instructions at Studierendenwerk.

Note on Verifying Student Status at the Cafeteria

For technical reasons, it is currently not possible to verify student status using the cafeteria payment card. However, verification continues to work reliably via the STW-VP app from the Studierendenwerk Vorderpfalz.

The cafeteria payment card can be linked to the STW-VP app. To do this, use the card reader on the right-hand top-up station:

  1. Place the cafeteria payment card on the card reader on the right-hand top-up station.
  2. Scan the displayed QR code with the STW-VP app.
  3. The app account and the card will be linked.

Once linked, the card’s balance can also be used in the app. Student status verification or validation then takes place directly through the app and works there without any restrictions.
