Connect to network drives

Students of the Ludwigshafen University of Business and Society have the possibility to access their home drives (Z:) and teaching drives (M:) worldwide via the Internet or during their stay on campus via notebook.

Prerequisites:

  • Existing internet connection
  • Existing VPN connection to the university

Instructions for Windows 10

The following example was created under Windows 10. The procedure is similar for other Windows versions.

  1. Open the file explorer.
  2. Click on "Computer" or "This PC".
  3. In the "Computer" menu, select the "Connect network drive" option.
  4. Enter the free drive letter for your connection.
  5. Enter the connection path:

For the Education (M:) share, the path is
      \\143.93.202.18\lehre

For the Users (Z:) share, the path is
      \\143.93.202.18\users\[YOUR LOGIN NAME]

Account name is your login name (e.g. LUAA000).

ATTENTION: The square brackets above mark a variable and must not be used!

  • Select the option "Connect with other credentials", otherwise the current credentials of your device will automatically be used for the connection, which may not be available on the target server.
  • For the connections to the drives, set the domain name in the form "CAMPUS\accountname" in front of it.
  • If a message such as "...multiple connections to a server ... using multiple user names are not allowed..." appears, you are probably already connected to the server, possibly with the local (wrong) user account.
  • If you have a network drive to this server without access rights, disconnect all connections to this server and perform the process again with the correct login data.
  • If there is no visible connection to a network drive on this server, there may be a hidden connection. Experienced users can see and disconnect this using the command prompt with the command "net use" (/h = help). Otherwise, logging off and on again on your computer will also help to disconnect the connection.

Connecting with Mac OS

  • Open the "Finder" and select "Connect to server..." from the "Go to" menu.

  • In the window that opens, enter the following commands one after the other under "Server address:":
    • For the home drive:
      smb://143.93.202.18/USERS/[YOUR LOGIN NAME]
(In this example, the login name is e.g. LUAA000)
    • For the education drive:
      smb://143.93.202.18/lehre
  • Enter your login data in the next window:

    • Username: CAMPUS[your matriculation number]
    • Password: Your PC pool password
  • If successful, the drives will now appear in the device overview in the Finder.
