Project Management:Prof. Dr. Ariane Brenssell
Project duration:May 6-7, 2014
Project description:

"Grand Hotel Cosmopolis" - New ways in diversity-conscious social work using the example of refugee work. A presentation and workshop discussion to kick off a research collaboration.

The Grand Hotel Cosmopolis" in Augsburg has been breaking new ground in diversity-conscious refugee work for almost two years now and is considered a showcase project against discrimination and isolation of people seeking asylum in Germany. Due to the special task of taking in traumatized women and children, the project also pursues a preventive health and gender-sensitive (trauma) approach. The cooperation and coexistence between people with and without papers, the connection between art, social work and politics is unique. The project in the heart of Augsburg could therefore interest a broad public. Diversity goals are consciously pursued, such as the expansion of participation opportunities, special attention to gender aspects, etc. In order to make this unique approach of diversity-conscious social work accessible to students of social work, students in health care, interested teachers, etc., we would like to invite two representatives of the project to a four-hour event on May 7, 2014. They will report about history, concerns and the challenges in the work of the ,,Grandhotel Cosmopolis", present their work also visually and open themselves to discussion. In addition, possibilities of (research) cooperation with a focus on participatory and diversity-conscious research will be discussed in a workshop discussion.

Target groups:Students and teachers of the Department of Social and Health Services, citizens of the city of Ludwigshafen, friends and makers of the Hack Museum/Project "Hack in the city: pie box", refugee and diversity projects and initiatives in Mannheim and Ludwigshafen.
Diversity dimension:Broadening participation of people with migration background, refugees and undocumented people; Diversity and disability in focus on "Mental disability due to trauma"; Gender; Innovative practice in diversity conscious social work; Presentation of a "Good Practice" project in the field of diversity.
