...to promote respectful interaction across all areas of the university and to foster active participation in the university's self-administration.
...to deepen the interdepartmental and interdisciplinary exchange.
...to reflect and develop its mission statement in the individual units.
...to integrate their mission statement as an important basis for their quality management.
...to use the mission statement as a starting point for the development of a common code of conduct.
...to conduct a continuous discussion on the further development of their tasks and goals and to further develop their mission statement in the process.
...communicate their mission statement to all current and future faculty, staff and students and make it a guideline for action.

Background to the mission statement and implementation strategy

The mission statement was developed in a joint process in the period from October 2013 to June 2014. Initial ideas and content were initially developed in a university-wide world café in October 2013 . These were then further fleshed out and supplemented in special meetings of the departmental councils in November. A second world café in January 2014 compiled and discussed the results developed up to that point. For further joint agreement on the contents of the mission statement, a  delegates' round was formed. It was given the task of formulating a draft mission statement at on the basis of the results of the discussion. The delegate group consisted of representatives from the departments, the student body, the administration, the staff council, the equal opportunities department and the university management.

In the period from January to May 2014, the group of delegates developed a draft mission statement. This was first discussed in the departmental councils and approved in June in the Senate and then in the University Council. The mission statement and its development had been addressed and discussed in various committees and events up to that point.

It was important to all university members involved in the development of the mission statement of the Ludwigshafen University of Applied Sciences that the mission statement not only reflects the self-image and the current reality of the university, but also formulates goals and visions for the future. These should form the basis for the further development of our university.

Implementation of the mission statement

In October 2014, the next steps for implementing the mission statement were jointly developed in the delegates' meeting. The ideas are discussed internally at the university and gradually implemented. The implementation of the ideas, goals and visions anchored in the mission statement should be a special focus at the university in the coming years. The implementation of the mission statement is conceptually anchored in the university's quality management system. The conceptual intention is that the strategic goals of the mission statement and the other strategic goals of the study programs, departments and the university serve as a starting point for the concretization of goals and the development of suitable measures for achieving them.
