As part of a small ceremony on October 30, 2025, the Rhineland-Palatinate Scholarship Foundation's Volunteer Award was presented to two students from the Ludwigshafen University of Business and Society (HWG LU). Daniela Krackl, a student on the Bachelor's degree course in Nursing Education, and Tim Lunau, a student on the Bachelor's degree course in International Business Administration, were honored for their outstanding voluntary work and excellent academic achievements. In recognition of their achievements, the two award winners will each receive a monthly grant of 600 euros for a period of six months.
On Thursday, October 30, the Ludwigshafen University of Business and Society presented two outstanding students with the Rhineland-Palatinate Scholarship Foundation's Volunteer Award at a small ceremony. Prizewinner Daniela Krackl, a student of Nursing Education, and prizewinner Tim Lunau, a student of International Business Administration with a focus on Management, were honored for their exceptional social commitment and excellent academic achievements. The event was organized by the International Office of the HWG LU.
In her welcoming speech, Prof. Dr. Edith Rüger-Muck, Vice President for International Affairs and Communication, emphasized the great social importance of volunteering and her respect for the achievements of the two award-winning students: "Volunteering is not a matter of course. It means extra work, takes time and requires good self-organization. It is a gift to society." The many good applications for the award and the broad voluntary commitment of so many students that can be seen from them give her great confidence, said the Vice President.
In her laudatory speech, Kerstin Gallenstein, Head of the International Office, then outlined the careers of the two prizewinners and the reasons for their selection by the interdisciplinary jury: Daniela Krackl is a single mother of two children, one of whom is severely disabled, and in addition to her studies in nursing education, she is also a highly committed volunteer equal opportunities officer for the municipality of Bobenheim-Roxheim. "The award means a lot to me. It is valuable recognition and motivation," said Daniela Krackl in her acceptance speech, adding that part of the winnings will go towards the Bobenheim-Roxheim community's Advent coffee at the beginning of December.
In addition to studying economics, Tim Lunau has been committed to protecting the oceans for years and is involved with the Okeanos Foundation. "The idea behind this is to combine nature conservation and economic interests," explains Lunau, who is currently working on a documentary film for the Waves of Action Initiative youth project group at Okeanos. Lunau is also involved in caring for older people with neurological disorders and in setting up a new interdisciplinary talk format at the University of Frankfurt. "Balancing everything requires a well-managed schedule, but it gives me a lot," he concludes.
In recognition of their achievements, Daniela Krackl and Tim Lunau each receive a monthly grant of 600 euros for a period of six months.
