As part of the Klara Marie Fassbinder Visiting Professorship for Women's and Gender Studies in Rhineland-Palatinate, psychologist Dr. Monika Henn supported the Department of Management, Controlling, HealthCare in the winter semester 2021/2022 with three public lectures and two teaching seminars. Under the titles "Empowerment," "Encouragement," and "Responsiveness," Henn's lecture series focused in particular on female managers and the topic of professional communication.

In the winter semester 2021/2022, Dr. Monika Henn will hold the international and interdisciplinary Klara Marie Fassbinder Visiting Professorshipfor Women's and Gender Studies Rhineland-Palatinate and will support the teaching program at the Department of Management, Controlling, HealthCare with three public lectures and two accompanied courses on the topics of "Women and Leadership" and "Professional Communication" respectively. The graduate psychologist and lawyer with a focus on labor law, who also works as a business coach for female executives in the consulting firm she co-founded, took a closer look at the differences between male and female leadership, the characteristics of female and male executives, the compatibility of work and family, and the factors for successful professional communication.

Dr. Monika Henn gave her inaugural lecture to an interested audience of over 100 on the topic of "Empowerment: Personality Factors as Career Drivers - Recognizing and Developing". Referring back to her study on women in leadership positions, she elaborated on the characteristics of female leaders in comparison to male leaders and women without leadership ambitions. In addition to strong intrinsic leadership motivation, team orientation and flexibility were the most prominent characteristics, Henn explained.

In the second presentation"Encouragement: career planning with work-life balance", Henn took a look at prerequisites and obstacles for female careers and pleaded for the more realistic model of "work-life integration" instead of "work-life balance". She advised the guests to make clear arrangements in the partnership and in the family as well as to organize everyday life well in order to successfully combine career and family care responsibilities. According to Henn, making work locations and working hours more flexible is also very important here.

The third lecture dealt with the topic of "Responsiveness: Competencies of women in leadership and professional communication". In it, Henn recommended an "agile" leadership style adapted to the situation as well as to the respective employees, which takes into account the "maturity level" and personality of the employee(s) as well as the nature of the task and the expectations of their own professional environment. "In addition, it is important for managers to critically reflect on their own behavior and communication time and again, and also to seek feedback from others," says Henn. It is also central for managers to behave loyally toward their own supervisor and the company, she added.

Dr. Monika Henn, born in 1963, studied psychology and law at the University of Regensburg from 1983 to 1988. After working as a management trainer at Digital Equipment Corporation (now Hewlett Packard) and as an HR manager at the Rodenstock Group and Fiducia & GAD IT AG, Henn completed her doctorate in 2004-2008 at the University of Regensburg under Prof. Dr. Marianne Hammerl († 2008) on the topic: Women and leadership: What characterizes women in leadership positions? At the same time, she co-founded the consulting firm Henn Consulting in 2005. To date, Dr. Monika Henn has published numerous articles on career development, leadership issues and gender-appropriate leadership. Her book "Die Kunst des Aufstiegs - Was Frauen in Führungspositionen gekennzeichnet" (The Art of Advancement - What Characterizes Women in Leadership Positions) is considered a standard work on the topic of "Women and Leadership".
