Either one or honorary office? - Why not just both!?

Yesterday, students Denise Seib and Sabiha Acar were awarded the honorary scholarship of the Ludwigshafen University of Applied Sciences for their outstanding commitment and remarkable academic achievements. The two honorary scholarships are endowed with € 3,600 per person and are offered once a year as part of the funding provided by the Scholarship Foundation Rhineland-Palatinate.

The list of their voluntary activities is long and the award more than deserved: Denise Seib, student of the dual bachelor's degree program in nursing, and Sabiha Acar, master's student in controlling, can look forward to this year's honorary scholarships of the Scholarship Foundation Rhineland-Palatinate. A four-member interdisciplinary jury selected the two dedicated students from nearly 25 qualified applicants, and for good reason. According to the call for applications, the scholarships are intended for talented students who distinguish themselves in a special way through social volunteer work - both criteria that the two award winners fulfill outstandingly:

"Bringing joy and great experiences to children from all social backgrounds" is what drives Denise Seib, who has been active in the children's and youth work of the Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund (ASB) since she was eight years old. In the meantime, she is the regional youth leader for Rhineland-Palatinate with voting rights in the ABS association and has also completed training as a paramedic. Combined with her work on the pediatric ward of a clinic and a current grade point average of 1.0 in the dual bachelor's degree program in nursing at HWG LU, this made her an ideal candidate for the Volunteer Award.

The jury and audience were similarly impressed by the achievements of this year's second award winner, Sabiha Acar. A "study pioneer" in her family, she is currently completing a master's degree in controlling with a grade point average of 1.3. She is also the mother of two children, aged two and five, and is passionately involved in the Yesside cultural association. She is particularly interested in information and education about the femicide of Yessidi women by the IS. But she also attaches great importance to lively exchange with the most diverse people and world views: "For me, there is nothing more beautiful than living and sharing culture."

The two young women were officially honored during a small ceremony on Monday, December 19, 2022, at the Ludwigshafen University of Applied Sciences. "When I see how completely filled out the daily lives of most students are with completing the required coursework, I can only say: you deserve our highest recognition," said University President Prof. Dr. Gunter Piller in praise of the two award winners before the ceremonial presentation of the certificates. Kerstin Gallenstein, Head of the International Office, also found moving words in her laudation: "You both have impressively proven that excellent academic achievements and voluntary commitment do not have to be mutually exclusive, as is so often claimed. You can be truly proud of that."

HWG LU announces the two honorary scholarships each year as part of the funding provided by the Rhineland-Palatinate Scholarship Foundation. The prizes are endowed with € 3,600 per person.
