Ersti-Welcome at the University of Applied Sciences Ludwigshafen

One week before the official start of lectures, the Ludwigshafen University of Applied Sciences welcomed the new freshmen: Today, Monday, March 11, 2019, the first-year students of the summer semester 2019 were welcomed on the central campus in Ernst-Boehe-Straße 4. Here, the "Erstis" had the opportunity to inform themselves about their future university, the central campus, the professors, the service facilities and, last but not least, to get to know their first fellow students.

The first semester welcome was opened with the traditional welcome service, organized by Pastor Susanne Schramm and musically accompanied by Prof. Dr. Andreas Rein, Dean of the Department of Social and Health Services. Referring to the story of Abraham - a central figure in the Christian, Jewish and Islamic traditions - Pastor Schramm urged the students to "put your whole heart into shaping a more peaceful and just world": "You shall be a blessing."

In his welcome address, university president Prof. Dr. Peter Mudra also appealed to the new students to get involved in their studies and their challenges and to retain their joy of learning and their childlike curiosity. In addition to gaining knowledge and critically reflecting on what they have learned, he said, it is just as important to maintain social contacts and make friends. He himself has also always drawn a lot of strength from making decisions on his own responsibility, revealed the president: "Studying means a lot of work, but also a great deal of freedom," said Mudra.

Afterwards, students An-Viet Sattler and Felix Müller presented the work of the General Student Committee (AStA) and the Student Parliament (Stupa). Together with representatives of the individual departments, the Student Service Center, the International Office, the Studierendenwerk Vorderpfalz, as well as the Bafög Office and the Deutschlandstipendium, they then answered the questions of the newcomers in the foyer and gave tips on starting their studies. Finally, guided tours of the campus were on the agenda, followed by a free sightseeing tour of Ludwigshafen by bus. In the afternoon, the introductory events of the individual departments and study programs started at 3:00 p.m. as a prelude to the introductory week.

As a small welcome to the freshmen, there were again this year the well-filled "Ersti-Bags" - this time in a new look. In addition, the AStA of the university invites the new fellow students on 12.03.2019 from 19.30 clock to the Ersti-Get-together in the L3 Lounge and on 20.03.2019 from 22.00 clock in the Chaplin Club in Mannheim.

For the summer semester 2019, around 500 students will begin their bachelor's or master's studies at the Ludwigshafen University of Applied Sciences. The bachelor's degree program in marketing is once again in particularly high demand this year.
