As part of a photo competition, the HWG LU's Diversity department called for submissions on the topic of "Your view of diversity at the HWG LU". The aim of the competition was to raise awareness of diversity at the university and make the many different perspectives on the topic visible.
On 18 June, the award ceremony took place in the HWG LU's creative space, where the winning photos were of course also shown. Guests from the university management, university staff and students were in attendance. The event was moderated by Prof. Dr. Nina Knape, Vice President for Studies, Education and Diversity.
A total of six pictures were awarded prizes; there was a special prize for a further picture. They all impressively reflect the diverse facets of our (university) community and show very different perspectives on the topic of diversity.
"The pictures are like windows through which we can look into the diverse world of our community," emphasized Prof. Dr. Nina Knape in her speech. She emphasized that diversity is like a colourful mosaic made up of countless visible and invisible cultural, gender, social, physical and mental differences. These differences enrich, connect and strengthen our university. In the words of William Sloane Coffin Jr, she summarized: "Diversity is perhaps the most difficult thing for a society to live with, and perhaps the most dangerous thing for a society to be without."
The event recognized the students' creative exploration of diversity and emphasized the importance of diversity for a vibrant community. After Nina Knape had awarded the winners and thanked them for their creative contributions, she concluded by calling on those present to work together to ensure that our university remains a place where there is room for all colors, shapes and stories.
The following prizes were awarded:
- Special prize: Aymun Al-Shaboti with "Tomorrow morning for lectures"
- 6th place: Lana Omar "ES WIRD- because we live it"
