Hybrid start to winter semester: HWG LU welcomes around 900 new students

With a good 900 new students - bachelor's and master's students from the consecutive and continuing education areas as well as exchange students - the total number of students once again reaches a very good mark with over 4,700 students.

After three purely virtual first semester welcomes, HWG LU was finally able to welcome some of its first semester students in person again today: Around 90 new students were able to follow the welcome on site in the Corona-conditionally space-limited auditorium and conference rooms, while the majority of the total of over 600 new Bachelor students followed the start into academic life virtually via the live stream on the university's YouTube channel.

University President Prof. Dr. Peter Mudra and the two vice presidents, Prof. Dr. Edith Rüger-Muck and Prof. Dr. Ellen Bareis, together with Chancellor (m.d.d.G.b.) Carolin Nöhrbaß, welcomed the (according to preliminary figures) total of around 900 new students on behalf of the university: "We take your success and satisfaction personally," promised University President Mudra on that occasion. Ludwighafen's mayor Jutta Steinruck conveyed her greetings and wishes for the start of the semester via a recorded video message. The General Student Committee (AStA) and the Student Parliament (StuPa) then presented the tasks and offers of the student representation to the newcomers; followed by the presentation of the university by Rosario Celona and Sarah Gonzalez-Störkel, marketing students in the second and third semester, respectively. Prof. Dr. Birgit Angermayer, the Student Union Vorderpfalz, and the university chaplaincy also introduced their services to the students. Following the official welcome, the AStA offered tours of the campus in small groups and a game rally to help students get to know each other better.

Start of a hybrid winter semester
The hybrid freshman welcome marks the start of another hybrid winter semester: students can look forward to a mix of face-to-face and online events. The AStA is also starting into the "new normality": A Ersti party will be held tomorrow at Club Chaplin - albeit with 2G verification. And on Thursday, October 7, 2021, newcomers can make their first contacts at the Ersti-Get2Gether at Freischwimmer Ludwigshafen starting at 7:00 pm.

According to preliminary figures, 678 bachelor's and 201 master's students (consecutive and continuing education) as well as 52 exchange students will start in the winter semester 2021/2022. This brings the current total number of students to 4,724. The bachelor's degree programs "Business Administration with a focus on Management, Controlling & Information" and "International Business Administration with a focus on Management" are increasingly in demand among applicants. The bachelor's degree programs in "Marketing" and "Social Work" continue to enjoy great popularity. There was also a big "run" on the bachelor's degree program in midwifery, which was offered for the first time.
