Kick for your career: 7th job fair of the University of Applied Sciences Ludwigshafen

On Tuesday, April 9, 2019, the 7th Job Fair of the Ludwigshafen University of Applied Sciences started. More than 30 companies as well as social facilities and institutions presented themselves and advertised on site for the workforce of tomorrow. More than 700 students, graduates, but also pupils and young professionals took the opportunity and informed themselves about trainee programs, entry-level positions and student jobs, internships and practice-relevant topics for bachelor and master theses. This year, for the fourth time in a row, the job fair was held at two locations in order to bring potential employers and employees together even more closely: Exhibiting commercial enterprises presented themselves and their offerings at the central campus in Ludwigshafen-Mundenheim, while institutions from the social and health care sectors presented themselves at the Department of Social and Health Services in the city center. In addition to the booths with information and advice from the exhibiting companies, there was an application portfolio check by the Employment Agency and the university's Career Center, tips from the Techniker Krankenkasse for a balanced study and work life, and information about the university as an educational institution and employer.

This year, the job fair of the Ludwigshafen University of Applied Sciences entered its seventh round and brought employers and future employees together at the company contact fair on campus. At the Ernst-Boehe-Strasse location, companies such as the bolting and fittings manufacturer em-Technik from Maxdorf, Enterprise Autovermietung Deutschland, Techniker Krankenkasse and Sparkasse Vorderpfalz presented themselves. IT and software companies such as SAP, Bilfinger Digital Next, Fasihi, EDEKA Digital, anuwo and Oxando, as well as specialized personnel service providers such as etengo, Amadeus Fire or univativ, also advertised here for the workforce of tomorrow. In addition to financial service providers such as tecis, consulting companies such as Occon, iQuadrat or Q-Perior AG were also on site.

At the Maxstraße location, the Diakonissen Speyer, the Helios Dr. Horst Schmidt Kliniken, the IFKV training institute, the CJD-Rhein-Pfalz/Nordbaden, the Lebenshilfe Schwetzingen-Hockenheim, M-A-U-S Seminare, the youth development department of the city of Speyer or the Ökumenische Sozialstation Ludwigshafen  presented themselves in the social and health care department. Other new participants were the Caritas Förderzentrum St. Rafael and the Ludwigshafen-based outpatient service "Meine Hilfe". The city of Ludwigshafen was also present with its youth development department & Erziehungsberatung and the LuZIE youth welfare service.

In addition to information and advice from the exhibiting companies, the company contact fair, which was organized by the University of Applied Sciences in Ludwigshafen under the patronage of the Rhineland-Palatinate Minister of Science, Prof. Dr. Konrad Wolf, and the Mayor of Ludwigshafen, Jutta Steinruck, also offered application portfolio checks from the Ludwigshafen Employment Agency and the Career Center, which is part of the university. The Ludwigshafen University of Applied Sciences also presented itself as a training company and employer.

"We feel very connected to the city of Ludwigshafen and the region, its institutions, its economy and, last but not least, its citizens. With the job fair, we have created another communication platform at the interface between students, the city, companies, institutions and social facilities in the region," said university president Prof. Dr. Peter Mudra, explaining the idea of the "job fair" and adding, "We definitely want to maintain and further expand the format."

The exhibitors were also satisfied: Jasmin Beutelmann from Bilfinger Digital Next GmbH drew a positive balance at the halfway point: "In the context of digitalization topics, we are primarily looking for students, graduates from the fields of innovation management and business informatics and  have already had some interesting discussions today. Many students came quite specifically and well prepared to the booth" - an assessment that was also shared by Hanna Salomon and Pia Achilles from Fasihi GmbH, which is located in the immediate vicinity of the university. The trade fair team of Occon GmbH, an owner-managed consulting and service company for transport purchasing, also praised the trade fair as a sustainable recruiting platform: "We are participating for the second time and already have five working students from the university in Ludwigshafen - 100% takeover rate".

The exhibitors at the Maxstrasse location were equally pleased about the lively interest on the part of students in the social and health care faculty: "We are here for the first time and are totally satisfied. We had many good discussions and will definitely be back next year," summed up Annette Hargesheimer from the Caritas Förderzentrum St. Rafael, for example. Michael Wendelken from the Diakonissen Speyer is also already sure that his team will be at the start again in 2020 - not only because of the traditionally close cooperation of his house with the university. "We would have liked to see even more students from the field of nursing at the stand, but the quality of the discussions is more important to us than the quantity," added Volker Wassmann from the nursing service Meine Hilfe.

And the students? They appreciated the short distances, the selection of companies and the opportunity for direct talks and personal contact. "I'm looking for a working student job in the IT sector, and there are a few companies here," said Mehmet Agkale, a business informatics student. "I find especially the medium-sized companies from the region interesting, which you wouldn't have come across on your own," reported a student from the bachelor's degree program in International Human Resources Management and Organization after her conversation with HR manager Andrea Reinhard from the screw fitting and valve manufacturer em-Technik, hidden champion from Maxdorf.

The job fair of the Ludwigshafen University of Applied Sciences will again bring companies and students very close together in spring 2020. The date will be announced in due course.
