Klara Marie Faßbinder Visiting Professorship: Successful Inaugural Lecture on "Empowerment

For the third time, HWG LU is pleased to host the international and interdisciplinary Klara Marie Fassbinder Visiting Professorship for Women's and Gender Studies Rhineland-Palatinate: With graduate psychologist Dr. Monika Henn, the Department of Management, Controlling, HealthCare has succeeded in attracting a renowned personality who deals with the topic of women's advancement and diversity both academically and in her professional practice. Her inaugural lecture on the topic of "Empowerment: Personality Factors as Career Drivers - Recognizing and Developing" was held by Dr. Monika Henn on Friday, Oct. 15, 2021. More than 100 interested people followed the hybrid lecture in the auditorium of the auditorium or via live stream.

Dr. Monika Henn, a graduate psychologist, completed her doctorate at the University of Regensburg under Prof. Dr. Marianne Hammerl on the topic of "Women and leadership: what characterizes women in leadership positions?" Dr. Monika Henn is a textbook author, speaker, and trains and coaches women in the areas of career development, leadership issues, and gender-appropriate leadership. Since 2005, she has been a senior consultant and business coach at Henn Consulting, a training and consulting company she co-founded. In the winter semester 2021/2022, she now follows the call of the Ludwigshafen University of Applied Sciences (HWG LU) to the Klara Marie Faßbinder Visiting Professorship sponsored by the state of Rhineland-Palatinate and enriches the teaching offer at the Department of Management, Controlling, HealthCare with three public events and two seminars. Prof. Dr. Eveline Häusler, Dean of the Faculty, was very pleased about the guest professorship: "The curriculum vitae of Dr. Henn with her expertise in science and professional practice, coupled with management and international experience, comes very close to our desired profile. She is an ideal appointment for us." In addition, as a professionally successful mother of two daughters, Henn is also a "role model" for the students, Häusler said in his welcome address.

Henn's inaugural lecture, titled "Empowerment: personality factors as career drivers - recognizing and developing," took place on Friday, Oct. 15, 2021, in the HWG LU auditorium and was also streamed live. After a thematic introduction by Heide Gieseke, spokesperson of the State Conference of University Women(LakoF) Rhineland-Palatinate and by Prof. Dr. Elke Raum, Equal Opportunity Officer of the university, on the still existing "gender gap" also in the world of science as well as on the significance of the Klara Marie Faßbinder Visiting Professorship, Henn gave insight into her research results on female leaders. According to this research, women in leadership positions differ from women with the same qualifications but without leadership roles, particularly in their leadership motivation, team orientation and flexibility or high willingness to change. Self-confidence and creative motivation also play a role, according to Henn. Her conclusion: women do not lack leadership skills, but often rather advancement skills. The "Cinderella principle" - waiting for women to be discovered - does not work. She advises women to be aware of their own strengths, to critically question their beliefs, and to be present and well networked.

This will be followed on Friday, Nov. 12, 2021, at 11:45 a.m., by the virtual lecture "Encouragement: career planning with work-life balance" and on Dec. 9, 2021, by the hybrid event "Responsivness: competencies of women in leadership and professional communication."

The events are open as a stream to all interested parties. More info and registration at www.veranstaltungen.hwg-lu.de
