For the third time, the HWG LU is delighted to host the international and interdisciplinary Klara Marie Fassbinder Visiting Professorship for Women's and Gender Studies Rhineland-Palatinate: With psychologist Dr. Monika Henn, the Department of Management, Controlling, HealthCare has succeeded in attracting a renowned personality who deals with the topic of women's advancement and diversity both academically and in her professional practice. Dr. Monika Henn gave her inaugural lecture on "Empowerment: personality factors as career drivers - recognizing and developing" on Friday, 15 October 2021. More than 100 interested people followed the hybrid lecture in the auditorium or via live stream.
Psychologist Dr. Monika Henn completed her doctorate at the University of Regensburg under Prof. Dr. Marianne Hammerl on the topic of "Women and leadership: What characterizes women in leadership positions?" Dr. Monika Henn is a specialist book author, speaker, trainer and coach for women in the areas of career development, leadership issues and gender-equitable leadership. She has been a senior consultant and business coach at Henn Consulting, the training and consulting company she co-founded, since 2005. In the winter semester 2021/2022, she is now following the call of the Ludwigshafen University of Business and Society (HWG LU) to the Klara Marie Faßbinder guest professorship funded by the state of Rhineland-Palatinate and will enrich the courses offered at the Department of Management, Controlling, HealthCare with three public events and two seminars. Prof. Dr. Eveline Häusler, Dean of the Faculty, was delighted with the appointment of the visiting professor: "Dr. Henn's CV, with her expertise in science and professional practice, coupled with management and international experience, comes very close to our desired profile. She is an ideal candidate for us." In addition, as a professionally successful mother of two daughters, Henn is also a "role model" for the students, Häusler said in his welcoming address.
Henn's inaugural lecture entitled "Empowerment: personality factors as career drivers - recognizing and developing" took place on Friday, 15.10.2021, in the auditorium of the HWG LU and was also streamed live. After a thematic introduction by Heide Gieseke, spokesperson for the Rhineland-Palatinate State Conference of University Women(LakoF) and Prof. Dr. Elke Raum, Equal Opportunities Officer at the university, on the persistent "gender gap" in the academic world and the importance of the Klara Marie Faßbinder guest professorship, Henn gave an insight into her research findings on female managers. According to this, women in management positions differ from women with the same qualifications but without management tasks, particularly in terms of their leadership motivation, their team orientation and their flexibility and willingness to change. Self-confidence and creative motivation also play a role, according to Henn. Her conclusion: women do not lack leadership skills, but often rather promotion skills. The "Cinderella principle" - waiting for women to be discovered - does not work. Her advice is to be aware of your own strengths, to critically question beliefs, to be present and well networked.
This will be followed on Friday, 12.11.2021, at 11.45 a.m., by the virtual lecture "Encouragement: Career planning with work-life balance" and on 9.12.2021 by the hybrid event "Responsiveness: Women's skills in leadership and professional communication".
The events are open to all interested parties as a stream. Further information and registration at www.veranstaltungen.hwg-lu.de
