After more than two decades of dedicated work at the Ludwigshafen University of Business and Society, Prof. Dr. Klaus Freyburger will be taking his well-deserved retirement on September 1, 2025.
Having joined the university in the winter semester of 2002/2003 with a doctorate in mathematics and professional experience at SAP, Prof. Freyburger has since played a key role in shaping the Information Systems degree programs and leaves behind an impressive legacy:
At a time of upheaval due to the Bologna reform, he played a leading role in redesigning the "Business Administration with a focus on Business Information Systems" diploma course into a modern Bachelor's degree course. The early introduction of programming into the curriculum was particularly important to him - a course that he himself taught with great commitment for many years.
His course in Business Intelligence set standards: it was not only appreciated within the university, but also developed into a nationally recognized standard. The "Standard Curriculum for SAP BI at Universities", which he co-developed, is used in education at many universities worldwide. He has also received various awards from the software giant, including the Curriculum Design Award, Most Innovative Member, SAP Mentor and SAP Champion. Together with students, he traveled to the Sapphire trade fair in Madrid and Orlando, Florida. Last but not least, the SAP expert is co-author of the specialist books "Business Planning with SAP BW", "SAP BW on HANA - Step by Step" and "SAP Analytics Cloud for Dummies".
The passionate cyclist has also always been a strong advocate for quality and sustainable decisions in academic self-administration - be it in appointment procedures, in the further development of degree programs or in cooperation with practice partners. In the context of exam preparation, he distinguished himself by organizing a student practice course in the two subjects "Programming" and "Business Intelligence". In addition, his exemplary commitment to high standards in education, examinations and study organization contributed significantly to raising the profile of the Department.
Prof. Dr. Klaus Freyburger will remain with our university as a lecturer even after his official retirement. We would like to thank him most sincerely for his outstanding work to date and wish him all the best for the new phase of his life!
