Prof. Dr. Marc Dreßler receives award from the International Organization of Vine and Wine (OIV)

Marc Dreßler, Professor of Business Administration at the Ludwigshafen University of Applied Sciences, has received an award from the OIV (L'Organisation Internationale de la Vigne et du Vin) for his recently published book "Nachhaltiges Unternehmertum - Strategisches Management am Beispiel der Weinbranche". The award ceremony took place during the OIV Awards on September 30 in Bordeaux.

Marc Dreßler's heart beats for strategy, entrepreneurship and sustainability. He teaches at the Weincampus Neustadt and is the program director of the MBA program Wine, Sustainability
and Sales. With his research team, he has already established a panel on strategy and innovation in the wine industry since 2012. At the end of 2021, he published his book
"Nachhaltiges Unternehmertum - Strategisches Management am Beispiel der Weinbranche" (Sustainable entrepreneurship - strategic management using the wine industry as an example), which was published by utb-Verlag. The book provides practice-oriented management skills to strategically manage and establish sustainability. "It has long been a concern of mine to provide students as well as small and medium-sized enterprises
and especially winemakers with a standard work that offers concrete practical examples and recommendations for action, but also conveys empirically based knowledge," says Dreßler, explaining his motivation for writing the reference book.

His work was awarded a "Special Mention" in the "Vitivinicultural Economy" category by the OIV - the International Organization of Vine and Wine.
The award ceremony took place on September 30, 2022 in the city of wine, in Bordeaux. Marc Dreßler fills this award with joy: "It is an honor to be awarded by the
top-class jury of an international organization. Both the Neustadt wine campus and the Ludwigshafen University of Applied Sciences can benefit from this as
research and teaching locations."

The OIV was founded back in 1874, originally as an organization looking for possible solutions in the fight against phylloxera - the vine pest. Today,
the OIV includes 48 member countries. In 1930, the OIV Awards were presented for the first time. A jury of international experts from all member states evaluated some 60
nominated publications from 20 countries. 15 publications received an OIV Award and 9 received a special mention from the jury. The OIV Awards promote the dissemination of up-to-date
knowledge about grapevine and wine to the scientific and technical world as well as to the general public.

After the award ceremony in Bordeaux is before the next book publication: Professor Dreßler and his team are meanwhile back in the thick of things and are currently working
on the translation of the book into English: "The publication of the English version is planned for the beginning of 2023," announced Dressler. "In doing so, we hope to provide wine companies
worldwide with trend-setting assistance in matters of sustainability and entrepreneurship."

Comments on the book
"Marc Dreßler's book provides a very precise and detailed insight into business management for every farm manager and business leader in viticulture. It sensitizes the reader to those elements that are indispensable to successfully steer a business into the future. With many examples from practice, the potential and meaningfulness of its approaches are underpinned. A must-read for anyone looking for support and a guide to moving forward in this rapidly changing world."
(Jochen Dreissigacker, Winery Dreissigacker, Organic Winery in Rheinhessen)

"For the wine industry, this book has succeeded in providing an up-to-date and realistic insight into the actual business world. Based on surveys of many wineries, an actual state is outlined. Together with the principles of business management and strategic approaches, the creation of sustainable business models is shown. The approach can be transferred to other industries. The large number of different examples has made it clear to me how diverse the aspects of sustainability are. I have
so far underestimated this topic in its complexity."
(Dr. Uli Schell, Professor of Applied Logistics and Polymer Sciences, Kaiserslautern University of Applied Sciences)

"It is more than welcome that with "Sustainable Entrepreneurship" Marc Dreßler has presented a reference book that cannot be passed by in the wine industry, but which everyone, from the trainee to the successful winery manager or company boss should not only put under his pillow, but study carefully. It clearly has the potential to contribute significantly to an awareness and change in consciousness in the industry. For years, sustainable viticulture has always been in danger of being simplified in the industry, as a synonym for organic viticulture or for what makes winemakers tick anyway, because their vines stand for so long and so on and so forth."
(Dr. Rudolf Nickenig, former Secretary General of the German Winegrowers' Association)
