As a preventive measure to contain the coronavirus epidemic, the university management exceptionally opted for a virtual format to welcome freshmen
In view of the current difficult to assess situation due to the outbreak of the coronavirus also in the region, the traditional welcome of the freshmen at the Ludwigshafen University of Applied Sciences took place this time exceptionally in the form of a live stream. Via video message from the university's library, university president Prof. Dr. Peter Mudra and Michael Cordier, managing director of LUKOM Ludwigshafener Kongress- und Marketing-Gesellschaft mbH, welcomed the approximately 580 new students on behalf of the university and the city.
"Today marks your entry into the academic world. We wish you to follow this new path joyfully, courageously and successfully," President Peter Mudra gave the freshmen on their way. Echoing the state government's "Against Hate & Agitation" campaign, Mudra also urged the new students to see the university as a place of diversity and internationality and to treat each other with respect and appreciation. LUKOM CEO Michael Cordier also picked up on the campaign with the slogan "Living well together" and showed Ludwigshafen and the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region with its strong economy and its broad cultural and leisure scene in its vibrant diversity.
Afterwards, master student An-Vieth Sattler introduced the General Students' Committee (AStA) and its offerings and promoted the upcoming elections for the Student Parliament (Stupa) as the body of student co-determination. As a special highlight for the new students, Sattler also pointed out tomorrow's "Ersti-Get-together" starting at 7:30 p.m. in Mannheim's L3 Lounge. Finally, IPO student Tanja Ertl gave a brief insight into the university, the various locations, the range of study programs and additional offerings. The Market of Opportunities with booth presentations in the foyer as well as the campus tours were omitted on this day.
The rest of the Freshers' Week program, which is geared to specific departments or study programs and designed for smaller groups, will take place in the usual form. The math pre-course and the welcome service will also take place as planned. During the freshers' week, the "Erstibags" will be distributed to the freshers as a small welcome gift.
Around 580 students will start their bachelor's or master's studies at the Ludwigshafen University of Applied Sciences in the summer semester of 2020.
