Lectures, workshops, state seminars and a World Café: Yesterday's "International Day" at the Ludwigshafen University of Applied Sciences looked at the topic of "Successful Integration and Immigration" from very different perspectives.
Organised by the European university alliance "European Innovation Alliance (EuroInnA)", of which HWG LU has been a coordinating partner since the beginning of 2021, the day began with topic-related contributions from the partner universities of EuroInnA. Guests on site were María Teresa Aceytuno Pérez from the Universidad de Huelva (Spain) and Patrik Foltýn from Tomas Bata University (Czech Republic), who spoke about migration movements and the integration of international students in their home countries. The programme was complemented by a lecture by Harry Sponheimer (HWG LU) on the challenges of "Subject Teaching in English in Multicultural Settings" and a contribution by Mona Elo from Satakunta University of Applied Sciences (Finland), who was connected via zoom.
After short country studies sessions by the EuroInnA partners and a workshop on "Intercultural Communication", the World Café followed as a cheerful conclusion. Students from all over the world - some of them in traditional costumes - provided information about their home countries and spoiled the visitors with homemade regional specialities. With Koranic kimchi, Japanese rice balls, Turkish baklava and spreads from Ukraine, Serbia and Albania, students and visitors were able to experience the value of international exchange first-hand and make new contacts.
