Social security
Employment that is performed for remuneration is subject to compulsory health, nursing care, unemployment and pension insurance. However, students are exempt from this principle under certain regulations.
Employment during the current semester
During the current semester, students are exempt fromhealth, long-term care and unemployment insurance as employees if:
- the weekly work hours do not exceed 20 hours,
- the working hours exceed the 20 hours per week, but the employment takes place only on weekends, in the evening or night hours.
On the other hand, students are only exempt fromcompulsory pension insurance if the employment is classified as "short-term employment" or as a "mini-job".
Employment during semester breaks
During semester breaks, students are completely exempt from health, nursing care and unemployment insurance as employees, regardless of the weekly working hours or the amount of remuneration. On the other hand, they are only exempt from compulsory pension insurance if it is a short-term employment or a "mini-job". Short-term employment is likely to play a greater role during the semester break.
