Living in Ludwigshafen

If you are studying in Ludwigshafen, you will need suitable accommodation. There are various options, for example a room in a student hall of residence, your own apartment or a room in a shared flat. On this page you will find an overview of the most important accommodation options as well as practical tips for finding accommodation.

In addition to external platforms, the Ludwigshafen University of Business and Society also supports its students with its own housing exchange. This offers vacant rooms and apartments specifically for students. This gives you an additional opportunity to find suitable accommodation in Ludwigshafen and the surrounding area.

Alternative options in Mannheim

Due to the good transport connections, many of our students also live in Mannheim. Below you will find links to two popular private dormitories:

Tips for finding accommodation

  • Start early: Housing is in short supply, especially at the start of the semester.
  • Rental prices in Ludwigshafen and the region vary depending on size, facilities and location. On average, you should expect to pay around €300-400 per month for a room in a shared flat. Beware of unrealistically low rents!
  • Write personal application texts with information about yourself and your interests/hobbies.
  • Additional costs for electricity, water or heating(ancillary costs) may be incurred. These are sometimes already included in the rent.
  • Most landlords require a deposit of up to three months' rent. This will be refunded when you move out, provided there are no damages.
  • Please note that many apartments or rooms are not furnished. Check carefully whether basic furniture (e.g. bed, wardrobe) is available.
  • Under no circumstances should you make an advance payment - either in cash, by bank transfer or money transfer. A particularly common scam is to send you the keys to your apartment by post only in return for an alleged security deposit. Do not accept such offers under any circumstances.
  • Tenancy agreement: Read the agreement carefully, especially the term, notice periods and service charge regulations.
  • Only sign a rental agreement on the private housing market after you have viewed the apartment in person. If the landlord does not want to arrange a viewing appointment or states that they are currently abroad, caution is advised - in such cases you should refrain from doing so.
  • The tenancy agreement should always be concluded in writing. It is also advisable to take a trusted person with you for support.
  • Always make sure you have personal contact with the landlord. Ideally, you should have a telephone conversation before the viewing. You should be skeptical if communication takes place exclusively by email, if the language is very poor or only in English.
  • If you are unsure, you can search for similar cases of fraud, names, telephone numbers or key terms, for example at: www.sichere-immobiliensuche.de
  • Never give copies of your ID, personal data or bank details to unknown persons. This information could otherwise be misused for other crimes.
