Structure, procedure and preparation of the OnSet test

Structure:The onSET consists of eight tasks or texts. You have a maximum of five minutes to complete each task. In total, the test takes a maximum of 40 minutes.

The onSET follows the C-test principle. That is, the test consists of several short  cloze texts. The onSET measures the general  language competence.
You work online on short texts with 20 gaps each on different topics. The texts have different levels of difficulty. You have to fill in the gaps correctly.
Read here how a C-test works.

Procedure: The texts are displayed one after the other on the screen. Each text starts with a heading and an introductory sentence. The following sentences each contain exactly 20 gaps. You have to fill each of these gaps linguistically correctly.
One or two complete sentences end the text. You cannot return to completed texts that have already been worked on.

Evaluation of the test: For each correct completion of a gap, you will receive one point. Your score will be assigned to a level of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) based on your total score (A2 to C1). The score and CEFR level are displayed immediately after the end of the test.

The result can be viewed in the participant portal. You can retrieve your certificate there as a PDF file.

Preparing for the test: Before taking the onSET, you can familiarize yourself with the test format. To do this, work through the sample test. It consists of four texts that look exactly like the onSET.
