Insurances during the semester abroad
Students who spend a semester abroad must make sure that they have sufficient insurance coverage.
During your semester abroad, you are not covered by our university's accident insurance, and health insurance coverage also requires closer examination.
Health insurance
EU incl. Turkey
During your semester abroad within the EU (incl. Turkey), you are automatically covered by health insurance in these countries via the European health card of your substitute health insurance fund, the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). You will receive the benefits customary in these countries. Your health insurance company will tell you what these benefits are and whether additional private health insurance abroad is advisable.
Not included in the EHIC is a return transport to the home country and / or treatment abroad in case of a Corona disease.
outside EU and Turkey
For all countries outside this region you have to take out a private health insurance.
At some partner universities a compulsory local health insurance is mandatory, e.g. In Australia or Japan. In these cases, however, the return transport to the home country is not included, so that also in this case the conclusion of a private health insurance abroad is recommended.
DAAD Group Insurance
Students who are supported by an Erasmus scholarship, a Promos scholarship or a DAAD scholarship can take out combined health, accident and personal liability insurance through the DAAD.
