What is the difference between study programs with and without admission restriction (numerus clausus NC)?

In study programs with admission restrictions, only a set number of students can be accepted. With your application you submit a request of admission.
In study programs without any admission restrictions, all applicants who fulfill the requirements will be accepted. With your application you submit a request of enrollment.

Can I study in English?

No, you can't.
Ludwigshafen University of Business and Society does not offer any study program that is only taught in English. Although some lectures may be held in English, the main language is German. A very good command of German is therefore absolutely necessary and has to be proven before enrollment.

What is a foreigner ratio?

The foreigner ratio is 5% of the total number of students. This ratio only applies to applicants without a German or EU-citizenship and to applicants without a German or EU high school diploma or university degree.

How many universitiy places are there for non-EU-foreigners per semester?

Study programs with admission restrictions offer 1-3 university places for non-EU-foreigners, which is the official ratio.

The consecutive Master's sudy programs offer 1-2 university places for non-EU-foreigners.

Can I register for a consecutive Master's program with a degree from a non-European university?

Yes, you can, under the condition that your degree will be accepted at our university.

Is there a dorm in Ludwigshafen?

Yes, there is. The dorm in Ludwigshafen is run by the organization "Studierendenwerk Vorderpfalz". There are 187 places for our students.

Can I apply for a place in a dorm with my university application?

Yes, you can. Freshmen and freshwomen can apply without their letter of admission, which they can submit later.

Admission requirements

What is a university entrance qualification (Hochschulzugangsberechtigung HZB)?

A university entrance qualification is a sufficient secondary school education, which enables you to study at a university. In some cases, you need to prove times of study in your home-country or take an assessment test.

Who is "educational German native"?

"Educational German native" is applied to students who acquired their university entrance qualification at a German school either in Germany or abroad.

Who is "educational foreigner"?

"Educational foreigners" is applied to students who do not hold the German citizenship and who acquired their university entrance qualification at a foreign school within Germany or abroad and to those students who acquired their non-German university entrance qualification at a German school abroad.

"Educational foreigners" have to prove a sufficient secondary school education, which enables them to study at a German university if it meets the requirements of the university entrance qualification. In this case, you can directly take up your studies. Otherwise, you can't start right away.

What kind of foreign secondary school education is accepted as university entrance qualification?

The datapool anabin by the German Ministry of Education informs you about which foreign high school certificates are equivalent to the German ones. Moreover you will receive information whether you have to prove further studies or if you have to enroll at a preparatory college.

Do I need to speak English?

Yes, you do.
The main course language is German. However, your command of English has to be at least on B2-level, because in all Bachelor's and Master's courses, some lectures will be held in English.

Which German language skills proof do I need?

We only accept the following certificates:

  • DSH 2
  • DSD II in all parts
  • Test DaF level 4 in all parts
  • Telc C1 Hochschule, with the result of at least "befriedigend"
  • Examination by the Goethe-Institute, level C1

Application

Can I apply via UniAssist?

No, you can't.

How to apply?

  • Study programs without admission restrictions

Please use the online-portal to apply for a Bachelor's program without admission restrictions or for all consecutive Master's programs. Please fill in the application for enrollment and send it - together with all other necessary documents - to our university. We will then check your application and will inform you if you fulfill all admission requirements. After that, you can enroll within a certain period of time by submitting all necessary documents on time. You will not receive a letter of admission.

  •  Study programs with admission restrictions

For a place in a study program with admission restrictions you apply in two steps:
1. Register with DoSV (university start)
2. Apply via our online portal (application of admission)

After this application procedure you will receive an offer for a university place via DoSV, which you have to accept within a certain period of time. You will then receive your letter of admission. After that you have to submit all necessary documents (enlisted in the letter) within a certain period of time.

Will I be notified after my application papers have been received?

No, you won't.  We cannot inform you about receiving your application. If you would like to be notified, you can add a postcard with sufficient stamps and your address to your application. We will stamp off your postcard and send it back to you. However, you can check on the status of your application any time in our online portal, also whether your application has been received.

Is an online-application sufficient?

No, it isn't. Although the online-application is mandatory, it is not sufficient. After completing your online-application, print out the application for admission/enrollment and the checklist ("Kontrollblatt"). The checklist stays with you. Sign the application papers and add all necessary documents. Then send everything off per post or bring it to the university's International Office. Make sure you have kept the checklist for yourself.

What is "the checklist" (Kontrollblatt)?

The checklist stays with you. Please keep it until the end of the application procedure. It contains your login-data for the online-portal, where you can check on the status of your application.

Which documents do I need for the application?

  • High school diploma and university degree certificates
  • Language proof
  • For the study program Social Work: Proof of an internship
  • In case you had been enrolled in another university: Proof about study times in Germany - Enrollment certificate, proof of achievements, certificate of good standing
  • CV in German
  • Photocopy of your passport and - if you have - of your residence permit and the additional paper or the "Fiktionsbescheinigung".

What is a certificate of good conduct (Unbedenklichkeitsbescheinigung)?

You need a certificate of good conduct when you change the university. Your current university will write you one. It contains the information if you have lost your right of examination.

When do I lose my right of examination?

You lose your right of examination after definitely having failed an examination.

Should I submit original documents?

No, please don't do so.
All documents from your home-country have to be handed in as certified copies of the original documents and as certified translations into a common European language (e.g. English, French or German).

Should I submit my application papers by post or can I hand them in personally?

You can send in your application documents by post or hand them in personally. In any case, they have to arrive on time.

What means application in due form and time?

Your application has to be on time, that means your application documents for study programs with admission restrictions have to arrive before the application deadline. The date of post mark is decisive. You can find all application deadlines on our homepage.

Can I only apply with my CV?

No, you can't. The online-application is mandatory. Please note that we only accept complete admission papers, otherwise your application will not be processed.

Can I hand in application documents later?

Yes, you can. You have to send in your proof of language or your assessment test result within 14 days after the application deadline at the latest!
All other documents,
though, have to be handed in on time!

I made a mistake in my application - what now?

In case of problems during your online-application (e.g. you cannot print your application of admission, the system won't accept your data, etc.) you have to start all over again, because your data will not have been secured.

Can I alter the data in my application subsequently?

You can correct mistakes in your online-application via the navigation bar (on the left hand side in the online portal). After sending off your application and after receiving your applicant-number, you cannot alter anything anymore. In case of a severe mistake, fill out a new application.

When will the admission notifications be sent out?

The admission notifications will be sent out about 3 weeks after the application deadline.

Should I ask by telephone about my chances of admission?

No, please don't.  Please understand that we cannot inform you at length about your application process on the phone. The decisions are being taken shortly before sending out the letters of admission. Before that we cannot say anything about your chances of admission. With your login-data, you can have a look at the status of your application on the online portal of our university any time.

Can I change my study program after enrollment?

No, you cannot do this directly after enrollment. You can change your study program until the third semester, as long as there are enough free places. In any case, you need the approval of the immigration authority. Additionally, you have to apply again for the first semester.

Will my application documents be given back to me?

Yes, they will, if you send us an envelope with enough postage and your address.

What comes first: admission or visa?

If you live outside of Germany, you have to apply for a study visa before travelling to Germany. You can do this with your letter of admission at the respective German diplomatic mission abroad (embassy, consulate...). Your letter of admission or any other documents that prove your university place should suffice.
In case you already are in Germany, you have to apply for a residence permit at the responsible immigration office.

Enrollment

Which documents do I have to show at enrollment?

You will find a list of all necessary documents in your letter of admission.
Usually, you have to show this:

  • passport (original, no photocopy)
  • valid residence permit and all documents (Aufenthaltstitel + Zusatzblatt, Fiktionsbescheinigung etc.)
  • insurance certificate
  • receipt about having paid the semester fee
  • etc. etc.

What are the necessary residence permit documents?

Your residence permit according to § 16 AufenthG is only valid in combination with the additional paper ("Zusatzblatt"). This Zusatzblatt quotes the reason for your stay (study-course).

My study-visa is still valid. Do I have to get an additional paper ("Zusatzblatt") after enrollment?

Yes, you do. Your residence permit is only valid for a certain university, which is named in your documents. If you have been enrolled in another university or prep college or language course, you will have to get a new additional paper ("Zusatzblatt") from the relevant immigration authority, that states your study course at our university: „…berechtigt zum Studium an der Hochschule für Wirtschaft und Gesellschaft Ludwigshafen…“

Do I have to hand in my health insurance certificate?

Yes, you do. All students in Germany have to be health-insured. That's why you have to show your health insurance certificate at enrollment.
Please show either

  • your insurance certificate with the company-number and your personal insurance number
  • or an insurance certificate with one or two valid registration cards

Do I have to pay tuition fees?

No, you don't. There are no tuition fees in Germany. However, you have to pay a relatively small semester fee.

I need a certificate of enrollment in order to apply for a visa. Where and when can I get one?

If you enrolled within the given timeframe, you will receive this document directly. This paper usually suffices to apply for a study visa, although it is not a student ID as such.

Is the semester-ticket included in my semester-fee?

No, it is not. You can decide on your own if you want to buy a semester ticket.

Where can I buy the semester-ticket?

You can buy the semester ticket at every regional VRN-center or at Deutsche Bahn.
