Professional tasks of the training:
Training as a specialist for media and information services is a state-recognized training occupation. During your training, you will be taught the following knowledge and skills, among others:
- process procurement procedures
- Inventory media and process invoices
- Formally record media and information
- Equip media with library technology
- Provide media and information
- Present media and information in a customer-oriented manner
- Identify customer needs; inform and advise customers
- Introduce customers to library use
- conduct research based on customer requests
- Process loans, returns, renewals, reminders, and advance orders
Prior Education:
For training as a specialist in media and information services, you should have a good Mittlere Reife (secondary school leaving certificate) or an equivalent educational qualification.
Duration of training:
Training as a specialist for media and information services usually lasts three years.
Training allowance/vacation:
From 2020, the training allowance will be as follows
1st year of training | 1036,82 € |
2nd year of training | 1090,96 € |
3rd year of training | 1140,61 € |
4th year of training | 1209,51 € |
The annual vacation entitlement is 30 working days.
Theoretical training:
Theoretical training usually takes place at the Hermann Gundert School in Calw (block instruction).
Practical training:
Practical training takes place in the team of the Ludwigshafen University Library with its three library locations. In addition, "taster days" in archives, public libraries, private sector libraries/documentation facilities are sought.
