OFF//FOTO 2020

Rediscover Brutalism! A photographic, performative and musical examination of the Ludwigshafen university building in Maxstraße.

The Ludwigshafen University of Applied Sciences in cooperation with the German State Philharmonic Orchestra of Rhineland-Palatinate is participating this year for the first time with its own exhibition at OFF//FOTO, the festival for artistic photography in Mannheim, Ludwigshafen, Heidelberg and the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region. The project "Rediscover Brutalism! A photographic, performative and musical exploration of the Ludwigshafen university building in Maxstraße" under the direction of Prof. Dr. Andrea Lutz-Kluge, Norman Böttcher, PD Dr. Christine Resch, André Uelner and Simon Bernstein is carried by students of the BA program Social Work at HWG LU.

Most people don't like the building at first - they spontaneously describe it as ugly, clunky and inhospitable: We are talking about the Ludwigshafen university building at Maxstraße 29 - a Brutalist-style building erected at the end of the 1960s.

Students in the BA program "Social Work" based there have explored the building with photographic, performative and musical means and thus developed a new perception and perspective on the university building. This appropriation process will be presented in an exhibition in the form of a parcours through the Brutalism building, so that visitors will also get to know the building from the inside. Accompanying this, a musical composition will be performed live. This consists exclusively of sounds that can be elicited from the building as a sound body.

The opening of the exhibition "Rediscover Brutalism!" will take place as part of the Long Night of Photography.

More information about the program can be found in the news of the Department of Social and Health Services or at www.off-foto.info.
