International Human Resources Management

The skills and motivation of personnel are increasingly becoming a strategic success factor in modern organizations. Human resource management can and must make a decisive contribution to this.

Target group

Graduates of first degree programs in economics,  who, directly following their bachelor's degree or after a short period of professional activity, want to take advantage of a consecutive, i.e., continuing, business administration human resources degree program for their further professional and academic development. Most of our students have previously studied at a university of applied sciences (HAW)/FH or dual university in Germany, but some students also come directly from abroad or from traditional universities.
In a deliberately small student group of only 20 - 25 students per year, you have the opportunity to develop individually and to study together with excellent fellow students.
The Master IHRM is one of the oldest business consecutive masters at German colleges and universities. The Ludwigshafen study area Human Resource Management is one of the very few universities at all that can offer the complete HRM study program spectrum in terms of personnel and academic content with the consecutive Bachelor IPO, the IHRM Master in Human Resource Management as well as the continuing MBA HRM.

Guiding idea

The program vision is to offer an academic training program with an international component that satisfies the needs of internationally active companies for junior commercial staff for complex, generalist, strategic, intercultural tasks in the management of people, teams and organizations.
The program therefore combines several perspectives in its competence objectives:
International Business Management + Human Resources (Personnel and Organization) + (General) Management. This becomes as a whole: IHRM - the IHRM Master.
The Ludwigshafen profile in HRM, which is specific compared to other HR masters, is characterized by the deepening, specialization and coverage of all relevant HR subjects plus organizational management. The homogeneous admission requirements ensure that the subject is already covered in depth from the 1st semester - and that a common basic foundation in business administration, economics and law does not first have to be created step by step.
Many students deepen their profile in the direction of Human Resources Management due to the semester abroad and the company thesis. Others, on the other hand, use the opportunity to broaden their horizons from a good HR base, especially in the direction of general management. And a third group, which has not yet been abroad in its first degree, strengthens its own internationality through the master's degree with a semester abroad and/or a final thesis abroad.
The program integrates the necessary interdisciplinary aspects from related sciences, e.g. law, in order to be able to address the specific characteristics of international, global or transnational organizations.

Concept

As a "Master in Management", the Master IHRM is a consecutive business administration degree program in full-time form. Scientifically sound, but with an application-oriented profile, it deals with human resources and organizational management in international companies. Graduates of the program can work as specialists and managers in human resources management, especially in globalized companies with classic corporate careers. Internationally oriented career paths are possible as a generalist or as an HR specialist.
Depending on their professional goals, our graduates also develop management careers as commercial all-rounders in export-oriented medium-sized companies or internationally oriented SMEs. After graduation, students can start their careers in Germany, Europe or overseas, with the majority of graduates starting in Germany and later spending several years abroad.
The M.Sc. degree, which is typical for "Master in Management" programs, ensures the necessary quantitative and research methodological competencies to subsequently start a doctorate in economics in Germany or abroad or to work as a research assistant at a research center or institute for human resource economics.
