Student Testimonials
Interviews with students
Mr. Philipp Riedlinger
As a graduate of the Master's program in Business Informatics at HWG Ludwigshafen, I can say in retrospect that the program provided me with excellent, interdisciplinary preparation for my professional life.
The education is particularly characterized by the unique combination of technological know-how and an understanding of the strategic development of business models, as well as the combination of methodical approaches from theory with the consistent application of what has been learned in practical projects.
In my current job as Head of Innovation at a company specializing in the creation of joint ventures with a technological focus on artificial intelligence, I am able to apply much of the course content in an extremely targeted manner.
The Master's degree in Business Informatics at HWG Ludwigshafen thus opens up a wide range of career prospects, both in the development of modern software and platforms or (IT) consulting, as well as in positions with exceptional generalist requirements, for example in up-and-coming start-ups or in areas such as innovation management in large companies.
Mr. Dominik Kalb
The "Business Informatics with a focus on Data Science & Consulting" degree program at HWG Ludwigshafen offers optimal conditions for starting a career, and the combination of subjects such as "Design Thinking" or "Business Model Development" paired with the promising topics of "Big Data" and "Internet of Things" in particular convinced and encouraged me to choose this degree program. HWG-LU is one of the few universities that also offers applicants from outside the field the opportunity to qualify for the degree programs by taking knowledge tests. I therefore recommend this degree program to all prospective students who really want to enter professional life with a very good education.
Mrs. Sevda Bayar
It was very easy to start the Master's in Business Informatics, even for career changers, thanks to the preliminary course. The professors and the program manager took the time to answer all our questions.
We started our first Master's semester during the pandemic, but Ludwigshafen University of Applied Sciences responded very quickly. The online lectures were well structured and some were even recorded. The digital exams also went smoothly. The content in the first semester was very practical. The techniques were applied immediately in group work and case studies. In our view, this is good preparation for a later career in consulting.
The Master's in Business Informatics with a focus on Data Science & Consulting is highly recommended so far and the Master's program with the company SAP is also a good way to prepare for professional life in parallel.
Mr. Dennis Messer

Content & procedure
Since its reaccreditation in 2017, the Master's degree program in Information Systems at Ludwigshafen University of Business and Society, which has been running since 2007, has led to a Master of Science in Information Systems with a focus on Data Science & Consulting.
Information technology in particular is known to be subject to very rapid change. Specialist conferences, publications and corporate strategies show that the "digital transformation" of the economy is steadily progressing through the areas of "big data" and the "Internet of Things". This change is the focus of the Master's degree course in Business Informatics with a focus on Data Science and Consulting.
Data scientists deal with analysis methods for efficient research and real-time evaluation of "big data". This requires knowledge of disciplines and technologies such as advanced analytics, Hadoop or in-memory databases such as SAP HANA. In addition, data scientists have knowledge of mathematics and statistics, programming and databases as well as information technology and network communication, particularly in relation to the "Internet of Things".
Consulting expertise consists of analytical and conceptual skills in the development of corporate strategies, the design of innovative digital business models using design thinking and business model canvas, the optimization of processes, the ability to promote digital transformation through change management and strong communication skills in German and English.
As confirmed by practice and during reaccreditation, our Master's degree course in Business Informatics is characterized by its particularly high practical relevance.

Practical projects of the degree programs
NAO - a humanoid robot in use in the city library Joint project of the Master's program "Business Informatics with a focus on Data Science & Consulting" of the Ludwigshafen University of Business and Society (HWG LU) and the Ludwigshafen City Library is nearing successful completion.
Third-semester students on the Master's degree program in Information Systems with a focus on Data Science & Consulting at Ludwigshafen University of Business and Society (HWG LU) have programmed the humanoid robot NAO for use in the city library as part of a cooperation project with Ludwigshafen City Library. In future, it will be able to answer visitors' questions about the library's collection and the location of the media they are looking for. This is made possible by the core of the programming: an interface via which NAO can communicate with the library system and exchange data - while maintaining data protection.
The use of a humanoid robot as an intelligent library assistant for users could change library work and thus act as a prototype for other libraries. NAO not only expands the service of the Ludwigshafen City Library, but also gives library visitors low-threshold access to technology and artificial intelligence.
On Tuesday, December 19, 2023, NAO was presented by the students as part of their final presentation in the Makerspace at Ludwigshafen City Library. Project manager Prof. Dr. Frank Thomé concluded with an all-round positive assessment: "In this collaborative project, our students have combined humanoid robotics with artificial intelligence in an innovative way and shown how modern information technology can change the library sector. We are extremely pleased with the results of the project and are delighted to have developed a forward-looking assistance solution for Ludwigshafen City Library." "Our team appreciates the opportunity to gain practical experience through this challenging project and to expand our network in the city and the economy. The combination of artificial intelligence and humanoid robotics is not only proving to be a technological innovation, but is actually creating tangible added value for the citizens of our city," said Benedikt Lüth, summing up the students' perspective.
Those involved in the project at the city library were also very satisfied with the collaboration and the result: "The students did an excellent job and got our NAO up and running in no time at all! We are delighted that it can finally be used and are very excited to see how our users will react to it. The cooperation with the university is very valuable for us and has helped us to turn our vision of an innovative library into reality," said Tanja Weißmann, Head of the City Library, and her colleague Marco Teufel added: "It was really fun to supervise the group and to see how deeply the students got into programming and what diverse perspectives this opens up for the library."
A video produced by the students will soon introduce "NAO" to the public - soon to be found on the HWG LU's Master's in Business Information Systems website and on the city library's homepage.
The robot project with the Ludwigshafen City Library is just one of many exciting cooperation projects of the Master's degree course in Information Systems: at the same time as the NAO project, for example, two other student groups were working on practical projects in the field of the Internet of Things: In collaboration with the IT consulting company IBsolution, the students dealt with the topics of "Smart Campus" and "Smart Classroom" respectively in the context of data-supported building and energy management.
Design Thinking at Ludwigshafen University of Applied Sciences: Students of the Master's degree program in Information Systems present innovative solutions
Ludwigshafen - As part of the Master's degree course in Information Systems at Ludwigshafen University of Applied Sciences, students have developed innovative solutions for directly practice-relevant tasks of companies and organizations from the metropolitan area Rhine-Neckar using the Design Thinking method. In the current semester, the following sponsors have set a "Design Thinking Challenge": MVV Energie, the IT service company Valantic, the startup BioGenom, as well as the organizers themselves, the network organization 5-HT and Ludwigshafen University of Applied Sciences.
Design thinking is a user-centered and iterative-experimental approach to finding creative solutions to complex problems. According to all participating companies and organizations, this was very successful: "We will definitely implement the results" - this was emphasized several times in the Degree statements after the students' presentations. The very well-organized and professional cooperation between the student teams and the contact persons at the companies was consistently praised. And some participants from the corporate sponsors emphasized that not only the result but also the method itself was very interesting for them. An important additional advantage: new contacts and networks were created between the students and the companies as well as among the stakeholders.
Conversely, the students also gained important insights under the guidance of course leader Prof. Dr. Martin Selchert. Perhaps the most important experience was that the techniques taught in the events and discussed using examples really work in practice. The teams managed to deal with the highly complex tasks, work out the core problem from the originally formulated question with the companies and solve it systematically and creatively - right up to the first stages of tested prototypes such as a platform for digital customer interaction in a complex buying center, a database solution in knowledge management, the control of lead generation via an intelligently designed dashboard, the concept of an online presence including an inspiring AI-generated video and a highly innovative partnership model including a professionally designed website.
One success factor of the course was again the cooperation with the network organization 5-HT, which strengthens the cooperation between universities, companies and start-ups in the "Digital Qualifier" in order to develop innovative solutions for the industry.
If you are a company interested in taking part in the Design Thinking Challenge 2024, please contact the course leader Prof. Dr. Martin Selchert at martin.selchert@ 8< SPAM protection, please remove >8 hwg-lu.de: We look forward to a beneficial collaboration for everyone involved!
Data Science/Big Data practical project: Information Systems students work on company projects
