17th German Midwives Congress in Berlin with strong participation of HWG LU

More than 40 students from the BSc Midwifery, BSc Midwifery Science and M.A. Innovative Care Practice in Nursing and Midwifery programs, faculty and staff from the field of midwifery science attended the 17th National Midwifery Congress in Berlin from May 15-17. In total, the German Midwives Association, the organizer of the Midwives Congress reports about 2800 participants.

The representatives of the University of Applied Sciences Ludwigshafen were numerous also actively involved in the organization of the congress. In addition to moderating research forums, the lecturers and students were involved in workshops, seminars and lectures.

For example, Prof. Dr. Barbara Filsinger shared her obstetrical expertise with the participants in the seminar entitled "Birth in twins: where, when and how? For the seminar entitled "Being able to talk to people, being able to address problems", Dr. Rosemarie Horcher-Metzger was invited by the congress organization. Cordula Fischer contributed to an expert forum together with the junior organization of the German Association of Midwives, the "Young and Expectant Midwives" on the topic "From Theory to Practice". At two events, a theme table on regulation and self-governance of the midwifery profession and the bar camp entitled "Your contribution to a more equitable access to midwifery care for marginalized groups", which she designed together with the students of the Master of Innovative Care Practice in Nursing and Midwifery, Prof. Michaela Michel-Schuldt, PhD set her accents at the Midwifery Congress.

One of the highlights was the formation of the Midwifery Science Faculty Council (HWFT), with Prof. Nina Knape, PhD, vice president of HWG LU and program director of the bachelor's degree programs in midwifery science and midwifery, joining the executive committee as an advisory board member. In her new role as an advisory board member of the HWFT, Nina Knape will in the future represent the discipline of midwifery science on behalf of HWG LU in terms of higher education policy .

In total, 14 other universities and colleges of midwifery science were involved in addition to HWG Ludwigshafen.
