Successful Design Thinking Projects with Practice Partners in the Master of Information Systems

"Design Thinking" is an increasingly well-known and appreciated methodology for understanding problems better, looking more closely, and thus ultimately developing better solutions. In the Master's program in Business Information Systems, especially Data Science & Consulting, this methodology is therefore taught in a practical way with a variety of helpful techniques. In order for the students to gain application experience right away, they develop solutions for concrete, immediate and non-trivial problems in practice-integrated case studies with corporate partners.

In the summer semester, three companies from the chemical industry participated with the help of the 5-HT Digital Hub Ludwigshafen, namely Berkel AHK from Ludwigshafen, CibusCell from Speyer and Münch Chemie from Weinheim. In all three cases, the focus was on optimizing processes. In addition, a team of students worked with PWC to consider how companies in the "Future of Work" can more actively involve the human success factor in the transformation process.

At the final event, the results were presented and the process and the experiences of the students and their supervisors from the companies were reflected upon. Once again, the conclusion drawn by students and participating companies was: Win-Win! Although the companies signaled: "Gladly again at any time!": If you as a company from the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region are interested in participating in the next run, please contact the course leader Prof. Dr. Martin Selchert by mail to martin.selchert@ 8< SPAM protection, please remove >8 hwg-lu.de.
