Colors - we have always been fascinated by the many colors that we can perceive with our eyes. But the effects of individual colors on us as humans are also completely different, depending on how they are combined.
We all noticed a huge difference when the Wall between East and West fell - on the western side, many facades shone in all kinds of colors, while in the eastern area, a dark brown or gray dominated many villages and cities. This impression stayed with me for a very long time.
A fantastic new museum for abstract art was recently opened in Wiesbaden, the Museum Reinhard Ernst. The works exhibited there by artists such as Helen Frankenthaler and Friedel Dzubas really inspired me. They experimented with colors and developed so-called "field painting" from around 1950.
I have always been fascinated by colors - both in nature and when working with all kinds of fabrics. Even the type of fibers influences the perception of a color. The incidence of light can also produce different effects depending on the texture.
For my second exhibition in the auditorium and next to the university's new library, I have chosen an abstract series of paintings in bright colors. Abstraction allows our minds a great deal of freedom, it is up to the eyes to decide what they want to see, what feelings arise and it stimulates the imagination to come up with new forms and combinations.
Universities are places of freedom - through a lively exchange of thoughts and ideas, new things can emerge and, above all, diversity can flourish, which is very important for our society.
Even though the "dark months" are now beginning, there are often very sunny days and moments with bright rays of sunshine in our region. That's why the bright yellow appears again and again in my pictures - it reminds us that we can go out into nature and discover the brightness in everyday life in the wonderfully yellow-colored leaves, among other things.
Enjoy the exhibition, the colors and shapes of my pictures.
My special thanks go to Sabine Tarulli and everyone involved who made this exhibition possible.
