European Accountancy Week 2022 in Vilnius/Lithuania

The 22nd European Accountancy Week (EAW) could take place again - after a year's break due to the pandemic - this time in Vilnius/Lithuania. There were 12 nations represented with 50 students and 17 professors. The week is organized by the European university network ETAP - European Taxation and Accounting in Practice.

Axel Kihm, Professor of Business Administration, in particular Financial Accounting, and Katharina Notheis, Program Manager and responsible for international affairs at Faculty I, were able to travel to Vilnius University from March 7 to 12, 2022, thanks to the EU funding program "Erasmus +", which primarily promotes bilateral exchanges between partner universities. They were accompanied by nine motivated students, which represented one of the largest student groups among the participating nations.

The EAW pursues the goal to deal with the different problems of international accounting ("IAS/IFRS"). Students should be given a feel for the international dimension of business in a case-study oriented manner. Through daily workshops, the professor teams taught theoretical basics on the topic of international accounting in the subject blocks Assets, Liabilities, Equity & Financial Analysis. Afterwards, case studies were worked on in the international working groups, for which technical knowledge, communication skills and, above all, teamwork were required!

Of course, cultural events were not neglected during the week. At the traditional and very popular "Tasting activity" specialties from the different partner countries were served and the language and intercultural barriers literally melted away. The event was framed by traditional Lithuanian music and a folk dance - which certainly each of the participants had danced once that evening. A guided tour through the beautiful old town of Vilnius, an excursion to the famous Trakai Castle and a visit to one of the oldest vodka distilleries in Lithuania with tasting were also on the program. Thus the week passed like in the flight and with the "Closing Ceremony" all participants and participants could let pass themselves the week again with completely many, mad pictures in the conclusion film Revue
. Thus, beautiful memories with quotes, prizes for e.g. "Best Presentation" or "Best Team Spirit" and wonderful memories are permanently recorded.

And if we have now aroused your interest and you would like to gather similar experiences, then sign up for the next Week - next year we are going to Kortrijk/Belgium! An info event is planned for the beginning of the winter semester 2022/23.
