"Kick for a Cause" - MBA students raise €305 at charity soccer tournament

How do you combine theoretical knowledge with practical experience? MBA students Luc Hampele, Daniel Blazquez Perez, Felix Raffel and Wenhuan Liang asked themselves this question as part of the "Project Management" lectures led by Prof. Dr. Mustafa Canbolat. By organizing a charity soccer tournament, they not only demonstrated their project management skills, but also made a valuable contribution to a good cause.

Planning and implementation
The goal was ambitious: a soccer tournament was to be organized in a short space of time, with the entry fees going to a charitable cause. After an intensive planning phase, the concept was finalized: the game was played on April 23, 2025 in the LuFun Soccerhalle in Ludwigshafen. Students and friends of the university were invited to take part - whether as a team or as individuals.

On the day of the tournament, 38 participants competed against each other in six teams. Players from the BIP program, the HWG, BDS training and friends' groups were represented. The organizers were particularly pleased that not only trainees but also permanent employees of BASF Digital Solutions GmbH took part and thus enriched the tournament.

From 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., the teams played exciting, fair games, with the focus always on fun and a good cause.

A result with heart
In the end, a donation of €305 was collected. The amount will be donated in equal parts:

50% to the Sterntaler children's hospice - you can find the corresponding letter of thanks HERE.

50 % to the Ludwigshafen animal shelter

Special thanks go to Tim Schmitt with "TS Sports by Tim Schmitt", who actively supported the project as a sponsor. The organizers would also like to thank all the participants who enthusiastically took to the pitch for a good cause.

More than just a tournament
The soccer tournament was not just a sporting event, but also a practical example of the implementation of theoretical content from the "Project Management" lectures. The students independently took on tasks such as project planning, budgeting, communication and event management - and impressively demonstrated that academic knowledge and social commitment go together perfectly.

Under the motto "Let's kick for a cause!", it became clear that joint commitment can make a big difference - on and off the pitch."
