Social work: Master's students present research findings at symposium

Together with Prof. Dr. Peter Rahn and Prof. Dr. Jörg Reitzig, students from the Master's degree program in Social Work presented the results of their teaching research project completed last winter semester at the 2024 annual conference of the Network for Reconstructive Social Work (NWRSA).

The conference took place on March 8/9 under the title "Teaching research and learning research". It was organized by the Faculty of Applied Social Sciences at Munich University of Applied Sciences in cooperation with the Research Section of the German Society for Social Work (DGSA). Due to the Deutsche Bahn strike, the entire event was moved to an online format at short notice. However, this meant that all speakers and guests were able to participate and the entire conference program could still be realized and, for example, challenges of research in social work could be discussed in ten different panels.

The project by HWG LU Master's students on the topic of "Inclusion and transversality in social work" was selected by the organizers in advance as one of nine contributions for the poster session on the second day of the conference. Transversal socialities are a theoretical concept that places a special focus on collective action practices and the group as a subject of social work. Based on qualitative research with guided interviews, the aim was to understand how transversal socialities are reflected in social institutions and which strategies for dealing with social conditions can be reconstructed through them.

Although the HWG LU research group was reduced in size due to illness, a number of interested conference participants gathered in the specially set up breakout room. They appreciated the presentations with interested questions and appreciative feedback on the quality and conceptual approach of the research. It was a motivating experience for both the students and the lecturers who supported the project over two semesters.
