As part of the Erasmus funding program, Prof. Dr. Stefan Bongard took part in the 9th International Scientific Conference "Sustainable Management in the Age of ESG and AI" at the University of Maribor, Slovenia, in May. He was awarded the "Best Session Paper Award" in the "Sustainability Practices" category for his paper entitled "Sustainable Management and Business in the Area of Grocery Shopping - the Efficiency of Grocery Shopping (EoGS) Project", which he co-authored with students.
Stefan Bongard was very pleased with the award and emphasized that the use of the Erasmus program and the support of the International Office of the HWG LU have played an important role in his international research and teaching activities for years. "I am very grateful that this opportunity exists thanks to Erasmus and that I can contribute to making HWG LU better known abroad together with my students."
Students Farisa Dachkilgov, Fynn Düthmann, Elias Flick, Keyvan Mardani and Armin Zayks (Bachelor's degree program in Logistics) were involved in the winning paper. The content is about the efficiency and sustainability of purchasing in the German food retail sector, particularly in the context of online and stationary retail. The authors have analyzed how consumers save time by ordering online and what economic and environmental benefits or challenges are associated with this. Practical case studies and an analysis tool are used to compare the costs, profitability and CO2 emissions of different forms of shopping. The results show that online shopping often saves time, but that profitability depends heavily on the respective business models and delivery channels. Overall, the study provides valuable insights into current developments and challenges in the sustainable management of the food retail sector.
