Application procedures for a semester abroad at a partner university
If you would like to apply for a semester abroad at one of our partner universities worldwide, you will find all deadlines, required documents, and information on how to register on our online application portal.
Application Deadlines for the Semester Abroad
January 15 for the following winter semester
July 1 for the following summer semester
Required Documents
- Online application form
- Resume (in English)
- Statement of purpose (in English), for your first-choice university, in which you describe your study plans and the reasons for studying abroad (approx. 1 page). Students in the IBM (East Asia) degree program should submit one letter of motivation for all of their preferred universities. You can find the forms in your degree program’s OLAT course; please upload them there after you have completed them.
- Current transcript including all exam registrations (from the university portal). Students in master’s programs should also submit a copy of their bachelor’s degree certificate
- Course approval(s) for the degree program
- Proof of your proficiency in the language of instruction at the B2 or C1 level, issued by HWG Ludwigshafen or another university in Germany; in exceptional cases, a TOEFL test may also be accepted. For more information, please visit the relevant pages on our partner universities
Please submit these documents only once.
Online Application Process
Please take your time to read through the registration process before proceeding, and then send all your documents to me via email; original hard copies are no longer required.
General Technical Requirements
1. The system only accepts email addresses that consist exclusively of lowercase letters and are not Microsoft addresses, e.g., outlook, hotmail, live
2. The online application has been optimized for Microsoft Internet Explorer version 8 or higher and Firefox 5 or higher. We cannot guarantee that the application will function properly with other browsers. You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader to print the application form. Adobe Acrobat Reader should be installed before beginning the application process and can be downloaded here (Download Adobe Acrobat Reader).
Online Application
1. Please complete the online application (Note: Applications will not be accepted after the application deadline!). Please fill out all fields on the form; fields marked with an asterisk (*) are required.
After you have completed the form, you can either submit your application immediately or save it and continue editing it at a later time. Once you have filled out all fields completely, please review all your information one last time and then click the “Submit” button; this will send all your data to us.
You may apply to a total of 3 partner universities with a single application—please do not submit multiple applications for different universities; if you wish to apply to more than 3 partner universities, you can add them manually to your application form later
2. After you have submitted your registration, please click on the link “Download Application Form (PDF)” and print out the form.
If you encounter any problems—for example, with generating or printing the PDF file—please check that you are using the latest version of your browser and clear your cache if necessary.

To log in toon the page that applies to you, use your Campus Account (as you do for OLAT, your PC login, etc.).
