Electronic health insurance registration
According to § 199a of the German Social Security Code (SGB V), all students in Germany are required by law to have health insurance (1).
The data transfer between universities and health insurance companies takes place in both directions exclusively electronically. The previous paper procedure no longer exists!
Within the student notification procedure, notifiable data is exchanged between universities and health insurance companies, i.e. health insurance companies report, for example, insurance status, change of health insurance company and information on outstanding contributions. Universities send information on the start and end of studies of insured students.
Therefore, prior to enrolling (and, if applicable, re-enrolling) at an institution of higher education, prospective students/students must request their health insurance provider to report insured status to the institution at which they plan to enroll (2).
If you request your health insurance company to send us the notification of your insured status, please mention the name of our university "Ludwigshafen University of Business and Society" and our sender number "H0000719". The insurance certificate will be transferred digitally from your health insurance company to the university.
You are responsible for issuing the insurance certificate and submitting the notification of insurance status:
for a person already insured with a statutory health insurance fund, the statutory health insurance fund with which he/she is insured or will beinsured at the beginning of the semester (usually September 1 in the winter semester, March 1 in the summer semester, at UNI`s also one month later in each case), at the earliest on the day of enrollment,
for students who are exempt from insurance according to § 6 SGB V (German Social Security Code) or for students who are not subject to insurance, the statutory health insurance with which they were last insured - it is irrelevant how long ago the last membership or family insurance was,
for students who have been exempted from compulsory insurance in accordance with § 8 Paragraph 1 Sentence 1 Number 5 SGB V, the statutory health insurance fund which made the exemption,
otherwise, one of the statutory health insurance funds that could be chosen in case of compulsory insurance (§ 173 SGB V).
Since there are various health insurance options for students, please seek advice from a health insurance company in good time!
Note for students who are privately insured:
You must contact any statutory health insurance company, which will then notify us electronically of the existence of private insurance.
