Prof. Dr Jacob Hamann-Lohmer, born in 1993, Professor of Business Administration, in particular Digitalization and Supply Chain Management, joined the Department of Services and Consulting on 1 September 2025. Here, the industrial engineer with a doctorate in business administration introduces himself in more detail:
What tasks does your new position entail?
As Professor of Supply Chain Management, my focus is on teaching practical content on key areas of logistics and production, particularly around digitalization and digital transformation. A lot is happening in this area at the moment and I want to prepare students as well as possible for everyday working life and offer them a challenging but appreciative learning environment. I also want to initiate new research projects and scientifically investigate current issues in the industry.
What particularly appeals to you about the new position?
What motivates me above all is getting young people excited about the multifaceted and forward-looking topics of supply chain management - especially with regard to the use of digitalization and artificial intelligence. HWG LU also offers the opportunity to conduct practice-oriented research at a university with a strong application focus in cooperation with many disciplines.
What are the first goals you have set yourself?
I want to show students innovative solutions for the current crises and uncertainties in supply chains and develop these together. My goal is to quickly network with companies and experts in the region in order to provide the best possible support for practical education (e.g. through guest lectures or case studies) and to start new research projects.
What did you do professionally before taking up your post in Ludwigshafen?
Before joining HWG LU, I worked in a logistics consultancy, was employed as a supply chain manager at e-commerce retailer Bike24 and most recently headed up an operations planning team at hydrogen electrolyser manufacturer Sunfire in Dresden. There, we focused on the rapid ramp-up of European electrolyser production for the production of green hydrogen.
Why did you choose HWG LU?
I was particularly impressed by the combination of practical education, close interaction with students and a clear profile in the field of logistics. The HWG LU offers exactly the right environment in which I can contribute my experience from business in a targeted manner and at the same time provide new impetus from research and education.
Thank you very much!
