Semester abroad
Are you planning to spend an integrated semester abroad during your studies? That is a very good decision!
On this page you will find the necessary information about the preparation, follow-up and recognition of your semester abroad.
The voluntary semester abroad takes place in the BMC degree program in the 5th semester. In order for your semester abroad to be recognized as an integrated semester abroad, you must complete some formalities before and after the semester abroad.
Please keep your eyes open for the date of the semester abroad information event, which takes place once a semester. The date will be communicated via OLAT and you should attend this event in the 3rd semester (attending the event is a prerequisite for being allowed to go abroad!).
Before the semester abroad
The following minimum requirements must be met:
- Participation in the semester abroad information event (usually in the 3rd semester)
- Passing all module examinations in the first two semesters of study (proof by means of a transcript of records)
- English B2 certificate
The following documents must be bundled (i.e. IN ONE email or folder) and submitted to Ms. Notheis in Department 1 for approval:
- Approval of the course to be taken abroad
- incl. course descriptions (please always list alternative subjects if the desired courses do not materialize!)
- incl. current transcript of records
After approval by the international coordinator in the department, please submit the approval at the latest with the application for the semester abroad to International Affairs.
During the semester abroad
In case of changes in the courses IMMEDIATELY Consult with International Affairs and with the responsible program manager in the department (currently: report to Ms. Notheis).
After the semester abroad
The following documents must be submitted for recognition of the semester abroad:
- Certificate of enrollment from the foreign university.
- Certificate of passed, pre-approved study achievements amounting to 30 credits (ECTS), of which
- 20 - 23 credits from the area of Management and International Aspects
- 7 - 10 credits from the elective modules offered by other degree programs
- Conversion of the grades from the area of International Aspects
- an experience report of at least 5 DIN-A-4 pages, usually in English
- to be handed in at the latest in the 1st week of lectures of the following semester
- questionnaire about the semester abroad
- Presentation of the semester abroad as well as electronic submission of the presentation documents in the following semester
- Application for recognition of examination achievements during the semester abroad

You have not reached 30 ECTS abroad. What now?
If you decide to spend a semester abroad at a NON-partner university, you have to take care of your semester abroad yourself. However, program-specific formalities before and after the semester abroad also apply to you!
All documents both before and after the semester abroad have to be submitted to the department!!!
