Your campus, your future - make it sustainable and climate-friendly!
The Green Office is your central point of contact for sustainability and climate protection at HWG LU. This is where we pool ideas, projects and campaigns - and make the campus more sustainable and climate-friendly step by step.
The Green Office is coordinated by our Climate Protection Manager Matthias Krambs and our Sustainability Officer Carolin Keller.
They are already implementing concrete measures that show that sustainability and climate protection work in everyday university life. Here are three initial examples:
Our success stories
Green Office & Green Thursday

One of the first projects of our Green Office, which opened in September 2025, is the mobile Green Room - a solar-powered, green room module on campus, open for breaks, meetings and creative experiments.
We are there for you every Thursday from 1 to 3 p.m. for Green Thursday: come along, take part in small activities, give us feedback - and look forward to a surprise or two!
Recycled paper instead of virgin fiber

HWG LU now uses certified Balance Pure Papyrus recycled paper throughout the campus. This saves resources, energy and CO₂ - while maintaining the same quality.
Compared to virgin fiber paper, the production of recycled paper consumes around 30-60% less CO₂ emissions and reduces water and energy consumption by more than 50%.
Sustainable waste separation

With improved separation systems and clear signage, we are making it easier to separate waste on campus. In this way, we are increasing the recycling rate, reducing residual waste and actively involving everyone.
Good to know: six sheets of recycled paper instead of white paper already save one liter of water during production.
Our team
Behind all these projects are our Sustainability Officer and our Climate Protection Manager, who drive sustainability and climate protection at HWG LU on a daily basis. Here is a brief introduction to both of them:
Matthias Krambs - Climate Protection Manager
- Develops the university's climate protection concept and implements initial optimizations
- Focus: energy saving, waste management, green office
- What climate protection means to him:
"For me, climate protection means taking responsibility and implementing concrete improvements - from the big goal of climate neutrality to small steps such as consistent waste separation. We can only achieve real impact if we think about both together."
Carolin Keller - Sustainability Officer
- Anchors sustainability in the strategy and everyday life of HWG LU
- Focus: involvement, participation, communication
- What sustainability means to her:
"For me, sustainability means involving people and making it visible that we can change things together. Communication and participation are the key - real transformation can only happen if everyone has a say and helps shape it. "
