On May 6, 2025, Mr. Holz and Mr. Staab, two experienced managers from the corporate function area of the medium-sized company SpiraTec from Speyer, gave a practical guest lecture on the topic "M&A process of SpiraTec AG".
Based on a real company acquisition, they provided the students of the Management and Controlling degree programs BMC and MCO with valuable insights into the concrete processes and challenges of a company acquisition - from strategic planning and implementation to the integration of the acquired company.
The lecture is an important addition to the "Company Valuation" course, which focuses on models and calculation methods for company valuation. In contrast, the practical presentation showed impressively that the long-term success of a takeover does not depend solely on figures and models, but to a large extent on the human factor - in particular communication, corporate culture and management.
Through this authentic insight, the students were able to understand key relationships and challenges that are difficult to convey in pure theory. The guest lecture therefore not only promoted an understanding of the practical relevance of theoretical content, but also provided impetus for critical reflection on how to deal with critical success factors in M&A processes.
